My female puppy is licking her vulva frantically, no swelling. Why?

Based on the description you provided, it may be that Lucy has a urinary tract infection if she is scratching at her vulva. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Lucy and also test her urine to see if she has any evidence of an infection so that she can be treated. I hope this helps! Some dogs do have allergies that can make them focus on the vulva and sometimes they can even end up with an infection around the vulva. You could use a warm washcloth to wipe daily to see if it will help. If she’s not improving in a few days or if you start to notice urinary issues I’d recommend having your vet examine her.

Constant looking on the vulva can indicate an infection in the bladder. There’s not anything you can do for that at home so Bailey needs to see the veterinarian to have her urine tested for an infection or crystals. Try to get her examined today. Constant licking on the hind legs can have many causes but fleas are very common in the area. I recommend to discuss using an oral flea preventative such as Simparica with your veterinarian. If you give her this product and the licking stops, then you know it was due to fleas. In general you can wash her in an oatmeal type dog shampoo as this can help with itching as can an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for pets. Even though Blossom's anal glands are empty she could be leaking anal gland material and that is what you are smelling or they could be infected. Having your Vet express them and see what the material is like may be helpful. The other possibility is a UTI, but they usually have increased urgency to urinate. She could also have an infection around the skin of her vulva. I would bring her and a urine sample to your vet to have those areas checked out. Good luck!

Hello, sorry to hear about Ollie. Occasionally, female dogs can have a hooded vulva which can cause a dermatitis around the area which may elicit itchiness and a mild infection. Other causes such as allergies and fleas can also contribute to being itchy around that area. I would inspect the region and if you see dark brown pigmented fur or red skin, I would make an appointment with your veterinarian to have her evaluated. Hope this helps and best of luck

Poor girl. The brown staining is saliva staining from her licking. THe vulva also looks to be a bit swollen, likely b/c it is irritated. I would suspect that Aira has some vaginitis here. Visit you vet and they can prescribe some antibiotics to hopefully clear this up. Also if she is peeing more than normal and drinking more water, a urinalysis is warranted to check for a UTI. Until you can get her seen, you can wipe her vaginal area with baby wipes to help remove some of the debris and soothe some of the irritation. However, if she is spayed, a bladder or vaginal infection is also possible. Signs of a bladder infection include frequent urination, blood in urine, or urinating where she shouldn't. Vaginal infections can involve redness of the vagina along with discharge. Both of these conditions can be easily ruled out by your vet with an exam, bloodwork, and a urinalysis if necessary.
