Why is my dog licking privates, panting, and smelling strange?

Hi there. Sadie could have a lot of different things going on especially if she’s an older dog. Shaking can indicate pain or any kind of general discomfort. If she’s licking her front leg a lot she may have some pain isolated to that area and that is why she’s licking it. If you are concerned I would recommend contacting her owners and see if you can have a vet check her and make sure nothing else is going on and also check her for pain. If she’s painful the vet can prescribe something that would be safe for her and make her more comfortable.

You may want to have Sadie examined by a veterinarian. Sometimes dogs will lick the floor when they are nauseous or have an upset stomach. Ingesting non-food items like clumps or hair or dust could be a form of pica which can be a sign of anemia and related to fleas. It is also definitely possible that this is a compulsive behavior she developed at some point, but it would be best to rule out medical problems first.

Some dogs do have allergies that can make them focus on the vulva and sometimes they can even end up with an infection around the vulva. You could use a warm washcloth to wipe daily to see if it will help. If she’s not improving in a few days or if you start to notice urinary issues I’d recommend having your vet examine her.

Hello, Licking the vaginal area excessively could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or vaginitis. A dog urinating in their sleep could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or urinary incontinence. An infection, kidney disease, or an endocrine abnormality could change the appearance or smell of her urine. Many dogs urinate when they are excited and that part is totally normal. These sound like neurological symptoms but the symptoms are quite general, you will need to take him to the vet in order to have him checked and have a blood test done to start with, hopefully this will reveal something that can help with the diagnosis.

It sounds like Honey is in pain or has an infection. Since she is licking her vulva frequently and walking stiffly there is a possibility that she is suffering from a urinary tract infection or, especially since she was not spayed, a uterine infection, which is potentially life threatening. Please take her to your vet for an exam as a urinary tract infection can potentially turn into a serious kidney infection , and a uterine infection is potentially fatal. A UTI is usually treated with a course of antibiotics, and a uterine infection is usually treated by surgery, ie the pus-filled uterus and ovaries are removed and your dog will also be prescribed pain medicine and antibiotics.

From the clinical signs you are describing I would b considered mostly with pain in the lower abdomen. This combined with loss of control go urinary function could indicate an infection or inflammation of the bladder. I would advise a trip to the vet for a urineanalysis to diagnose.
