My dog licked Neosporin off his paw after chewing. Is it harmful?

I actually would not recommend putting anything topical on it if he can potentially lick it off. Neosporin is not particularly toxic if a small amount is ingested but it won't have a chance to work if your dog is licking. I'd recommend putting an e-collar on him to keep him from licking. If there is a raw spot or other skin lesion it would be a good idea to have your vet take a look - he might need oral medications for it to resolve. I doubt he would need anesthesia unless there is a skin growth that is there.

Soaking the feet in Epsom salts twice daily and bandaging with neosporin should work. If you can't keep bandages on then just keep him on soft surfaces, like the grass. If he is painful then take him to your Vet monday for pain medications. I hope this helps!

Small cuts can certainly heal without additional measures. Preventing licking is the first step! I would change the bandage daily. You want to make sure that the wound stays dry. This will also allow you to reapply the Neosporin and check for signs of infection. Signs of infection include swelling, reddness around the cut, or a creamy white or yellow discharge. If you see any of these things or if Kadi develops a limp, then she needs to see a vet for additional medications.

I would not advise the use of neosporin or any other topical ointment as it is a bit deep and those are not indicated in internal tissue. Teddy will probably be fine, especially since it sounds like he ate very little of the Neosporin. However, I would be on the watch for vomiting or diarrhea, since these are the most common problems associated with ingesting medications. If he begins to have vomiting or diarrhea you made need to take hkm the veterinarian to treat those symptoms.

He will likely be just fine after ingesting this. Just monitor him for the next 24 hrs for any stomach upset symptoms (vomiting and/or diarrhea). A bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice can be tried to settle his stomach. If his stomach upset is more severe than a vet visit can help him get back to normal status. These type of injuries are often due to a puncture between the toes. Sometimes the thing that punctures the toes stays under the skin. This commonly happens with thorns and grass awns. In both cases, an infection develops under the skin and will not heal until the source of infection is removed. Lioh's injury does appear to be infected from what I can see in the photos and it will be best to take him to the vet for treatment. For now, you can try doing a twice daily foot bath with Epsom salts to help decrease the swelling and help treat the infection. Just make sure that he doesn't drink the Epsom salt water, or it will make him sick. I hope that helps and Lioh gets better soon.
