Dog licked empty chocolate ice cream bowl with cocoa. Is he okay?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Poodle | Male | neutered | 7 months and 12 days old | 15 lbs

Jack (12 lbs) licked an empty bowl of chocolate ice cream. The ingredient in the ice cream is cocoa. He probably got a few good licks in before I caught him. Again, bowl was empty, he just licked the sides and spoon. Help?

Jack likely did not ingest enough to pose a serious risk of toxicity.
You may see some mild stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea). If necessary, you can fast him for 12-24 hours then feed a bland diet until symptoms resolve.
