Have Maya rechecked by your veterinarian. She may need xrays of the affected limb as well as her hips and possibly spine. A tick borne disease panel should also be submitted to rule out Lyme disease. Blood work to assess major organ function should be done (or repeated for comparison). A urinalysis will complete the picture and can further assess kidney function. Periodontal disease may be responsible for the bad breath and ulcers, but kidney disease is also a possibility to be considered. A complete dental cleaning is recommended.

The BUN could be elevated due to dehydration. This can occur with gastritis and an ulcer. If your dog has an ulcer that can be painful or can perforate or cause blood loss. All of these can cause weakness that can appear as no being able to walk well. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Luana! I have seen viruses attack the oral mucosa and also hit the bone marrow causing low white and red blood cells. The ulcers could also be from electric chord chewing or licking something caustic. Other possibilities are cancer and immune mediated. If it is a virus her blood values should improve over several days. I would have her hospitalized on IV fluids and IV antibiotics, oral sucralfate for the ulcers and an oral chlorhexidine rinse. She should also be on pain medications. She should have CBC's to check the progression of her white count at least every other day. I wish you both the best!
