Dog not eating, lethargic after parvo death. Parvo or depression?

I would be very concerned about parvovirus since a littermate died and the virus is extremely contagious and can be fatal. I recommend getting Pup to a vet as soon as possible to have her. tested for the virus. If she is positive, I recommend hospitalization with IV fluid therapy and medications because this virus can cause severe dehydration in a puppy that young. If she is negative, I recommend they test her stool for microscopic parasite eggs. Although she may have been dewormed, not all medications treat all parasites and she may have something that needs to be addressed. Good luck and kisses to Pup!

I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They can check for this or check if he has anything else going on. It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.

Parvo is typically accompanied by profuse vomiting and diarrhea although can be preceded by a short phase of fever and weakness. Poor appetite can be caused by many things including fever and dental pain and should be investigated by a vet if persisting longer than 24hours in puppies. If you did not receive vaccination paperwork I would be cautious and consider restarting course once he is well again

Other considerations may include pancreatitis, foreign body in gi tract (partial or complete obstruction), parasites, dietary indiscretion causing gastroenteritis, intussuception, and a few others. All of these would require further testing or evaluation to identify. Because your dog is so small it can easily become hypoglycemic if not eating. As a result, I would recommend seeing your vet or an ER vet if you cannot get in by the morning if symptoms havent inproved significantly. You can rub a little corn syrup or maple syrup on the gums to try and stave off low sugar temporarily. If vomiting becomes more frequent overnight, you shouldn't wait until morning.

I hate to hear about the passing of your pup. Yes, dogs do experience grief but vomiting is not generally one of the signs. I would be concerned that something medical is taking place. First off, I am sorry that you lost your other dog. It's always so hard to lose a beloved pet. Dogs do feel the loss of a companion, and will often seem down or depressed afterwards, and may go off their food. That being said, a month is a very long time for a dog to mourn, and him not eating for 4 days suggests there is something medically wrong with him. I would recommend taking him into your vet for a health check to see if there is something medically that is causing the anorexia. There are many potential causes which can be attributed to a dog not eating. For example, most diseases (including infectious, autoimmune, respiratory, gastrointestinal, bone, endocrine and neurological diseases) will cause a dog to avoid eating because of pain, obstruction, or other factors. Anorexia can also be due to a psychological problem, such as stress or changes in routine, environment or diet. I'd take Sammy into your vet as soon as possible for an exam.
