Why is my dog lethargic, not eating or drinking, and can't get up?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 49 lbs

My 6 year old dog has a dry warm nose is lying around and has no energy. She wont eat or drink anything. She hasn't been as spunky the last couple days but this is the first day she wont/cant get up.

Not eating, not drinking and being very quiet or lethargic are typical, if unspecific signs of illness. Since this obviously has started a few days ago and is not getting better, I strongly suggest you have Samantha examined by a veterinarian. She will likely need blood work in addition to a hands-on exam to find out what ails her. If she further deteriorates today, take her to a Pet ER today!

She could have be having neck or back pain, abdominal pain, orthopedic pain, etc. She should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a physical examination to localize the pain and then take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose. She may need an anti-inflammatory and pain medications to relieve her discomfort. Hope she feels better soon!

Poor pup! I agree with you that something is very wrong. Acting so lethargic that she won't even get up, as well as not eating is very worrying - these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by any kind of pain or illness, unfortunately, so it's impossible to say what's wrong without an exam. Regardless, I'm very concerned that this may be a serious, life-threatening problem from your description. I would strongly recommend taking your dog to an emergency vet today. The vet can do an exam as well as blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine the problem and see what can be done to help her.

However, if she is not back to normal in a few days, then she would need to be seen by her primary veterinarian. Possibilites may include an upper respiratory tract infection, a GI upset, or a urinary tract infection. More severely causes for her signs include liver disease, pancreatitis, or even kidney disease. These however is typically accompanied by other clinical signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and severe lethargy. I'm very sorry Sadie isn't feeling well! I can understand they you might be worried, but it is a good sign that she is eating every meal and drinking water. Lethargy is a very general sign of illness, and it can be caused by many different things such as systemic illness, infection, injury, or inflammation. I would monitor her for now, and if she is still lethargic in 24-48 hours, I would take her into the vet for a health check.

Hi there. I am sorry to hear that Chloe is not feeling well. The lethargy, shaking or trembling, being withdrawn, and hanging her head down certainly can indicate that she is in pain or discomfort somewhere. Not eating or drinking can also by a sign of pain or that there is a problem with her intestinal tract or other systems in her body. All of these signs do not point to one specific problem, however, they do tell us that Chloe is definitely ill. A good physical exam and most likely some tests from Chloe's veterinarian will help sort out the problem for her and hopefully get her feeling better soon. Best of luck to Chloe!

My dog is sick, won't drink, and is lethargic. Should I see a vet?

Poor Logan. He sounds really sick and i am really worried he is getting dehydrated. There are so so many things that can causing the decrease drinking and lethargy like an infection, kidney or liver disease, a toxin, or even cancer and much more. Since he has been since for three days, I would strongly recommend to have your vet or a local emergency vet take a look at him. They will be able to run bloodwork and X-rays if needed to help determine why he isn’t feeling well. They will be able to get him on the appropriate meds to help him feel better. They will also be able to determine his hydration and give him fluids if needed. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better really soon.

Why is my dog lethargic with a dry nose and clear discharge?

Your pet needs to be seen by a vet right away. Even with no other symptoms, extreme lethargy is very concerning. Your dog may have eaten something that disagreed with her, swallowed something that has caused an obstruction, has parasites, is coming down with some kind of infection, there are a number of possibilities. Your vet will do an exam and labwork to determine the cause of your pets symptoms and give you some treatment options based on those results.

Hello. In an older dog, lethargy can be due to infection, inflammation, arthritis, immune dysfunction or even cancer.
