Does my dog's 6-in-1 lepto vaccine still protect him after a year?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 13 lbs

Tiny got vaccinated almost a year ago, for DHLPP/CV, the L stands for leptospirosis, what are his chances of getting leptospirosis with being vaccinated against, and since this vaccination was a 6 in 1 given to him by our veterinarian, will it protect him from it less, since the vaccine doesn’t just protect from one virus/disease?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tiny. All leptospirosis vaccines are only licensed for one year. So unless he receives this vaccine again soon, he may not have adequate immunity. Furthermore, there are 4 common strains of leptospirosis that should be in a vaccine. Some of the combination vaccines will only include two strains of leptospirosis. This would also leave him less adequately protected. No vaccine offers 100% protection. However, vaccinating at yearly intervals for leptospirosis with a vaccine that covers 4 strains will offer him the best immunity. I hope this information helps!
