My dog's leg wound is decaying with worms. What should I do now?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is likely infected. I think it would be best to have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check the extent of the wounds and see what would be best to treat them. What you can do in the meantime is use an e-collar in the to prevent further injury. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry you are having trouble with Gulabo! I'm having a hard time orienting myself with the pictures. The first one looks like a deep puncture, the 2nd looks like a healing wound and the last looks like scabs on the ear. I recommend shaving the fur away from all the areas, clean the areas well with mild soap and water twice daily then apply a triple antibiotic cream to all areas twice daily. Purchase an Elizabethan collar (lamp shade) to prevent licking and keep Gulabo indoors. I can not see worms. It is likely best to have her seen by a Vet but I understand that one is not near by. I am assuming that the original wound never healed, only got better. If that's the case then I would suspect either a foreign body has entered the leg or an insect/spider/other has bitten him that started the entire problem. Puncture wounds can look very different over time so it may have been only one small puncture wound from the inciting event. I would advise taking T back to your veterinarian so they can recheck the wound and possibly rethink what is going on. (Assuming they saw it initially) after it first happened. They may want to culture the wound and run a sensitivity of the bugs that grow out of the culture to determine what antibiotics would be best. They may also advise some x-rays to determine if a foreign body has entered the leg although this can be of questionable value depending what the foreign body could be. Exploring the wound might be another option. All of these can be discussed with your veterinarian and I have made some assumptions here and could be wrong. This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Ideally a check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. The area must be clipped more and disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths (twice daily). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From this picture at least it almost looks like maggots or some kind of worm. This type of infestation can be seen with necrotic wounds or an underlying infection of some sort. It may be something else like a growth but it is hard to tell just based on a picture. An examination would help tremendously in being able to tell these apart. Maggots will actively move while a growth would not. I recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If these are maggots, your veterinarian will likely choose to clean that area further and get rid of them. Good luck!

Ouch! Poor Bess! This area looks pretty infected and if she had one last week my suspicion is she had allergies or some other cause leading to these areas of bacterial dermatitis (hot spots). You can try to clip some of the hair away from the area and gently clean it but I think Bess will probably need to see a veterinarian to get oral antibiotics. I don't think she has to be seen right this instant but you should try to schedule within the next day or so. Use an e-collar to prevent her from licking the area and making the issue worse. Hi and thanks for posting! You can try washing the area with soap and water a couple times a day and keeping it as clean and dry as possible. It looks like Bear has been licking the area frequently which may be a reason why it is not healing as easily, so I would try and keep an E-Collar on her to prevent her from licking and bothering the lesion. Certainly, if despite your best efforts it is not healing properly or is worsening, Bear should see his veterinarian to have the lesion evaluated.
