My Golden Retriever has a weird sore on his leg. Does he need a vet?

Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent further licking or chewing. This may be enough to allow for healing. Keep the area clean and dry. If it doesn't heal or if it grows or spreads, have Barnaby physically examined by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics or further diagnostics, such as a fine needle aspirate or biopsy, if it is a lump or mass.

From the photo it looks like Molly has a hotspot or skin infection. She may have the changes in behavior because she is sore or even has a fever. Take her to your vet tomorrow to get an exam and the right medicine to heal her skin. You can also fit an e collar or cone on her to prevent further licking.

Keeping the cone on Simba for now until you can get him to the vet is a good idea. He will likely need antibiotics to help the hotspot clear up. Also, depending on how severe the infection is, the area may need to be clipped and clean with the antiseptic solution. Sometimes the swelling and inflammation is so severe that dog will also need a steroid injection or a course of steroids to take at home to help it heal more quickly. I hope this helps. From the pictures, the skin appears red and inflamed. It does look like it is infected. While this may not be a true emergency, I would recommend getting in to see your veterinarian very soon. Pookie will need the area shaved and cleaned up. Your vet may prescribe an antibiotic for this as well depending. Until you can get to your vet, you can keep the area clean and dry and use a mild soap and water to clean the wound. If Pookie is licking it, you can put on ECollar on her to prevent licking.

Hi there and thanks for posting. I am sorry to hear the wound doesn't look like it is healing well. Bruno may need the wound bandaged and/or given antibiotics. Sometimes if a wound is red and swollen it means it may be infected. I would recommend asking Bruno's veterinarian to take a look at the wound and see if antibiotics may be an option for Bruno to help it heal.

The spot in the picture looks infected, it will need to be clipped and treated with antibiotics. he will also need to wear an e-collar in order to prevent him from licking the area and making it worse. i would recommend taking him to the vet in order to get it treated.

These look like callouses/dry skin which are common but scratching and bleeding would be uncommon and biopsy would be worth considering. Infections are common in any damaged skin so a check up to rule this out would be recommended as treatment and medicated washes may allow these to heal somewhat and seal
