My Golden has bleeding bumps on front legs from scratching. Why?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection can eventually be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). Hi, it looks like a cyst and it should heal on its own if the area is cleaned andhai around it clipped. I would also make sure that Ossi is comfortable as the skin looks extremley red. If with clipping and cleaning things do not seem to improve, Olli might need stronger medications. Hope this helps.

I can see the round, raised bump you are referring to. This can be a small growth, allergic reaction, bug bite, or a sign of a skin infection. I recommend having Kane seen by a vet, as this is clearly making him uncomfortable. Your vet can take a small sample with a small needle to determine exactly what is going on and rule out the conditions above. In the meantime, you can get Kane an E-collar or "cone" to prevent him from licking the area and making it worse.

Hi! Its great you have a picture in there! So, the wound appearance is similar to a fungus infection, which is quite common in dogs with this type of fur as in golden retrievers. It's not easy to dry it completely, so some fungus can take advantage on that and cause an infection. As it is pruritic (a nice word for itching), and fungal infection in the majority is NOT itchy, a secondary bacterial contamination can be occurring. You will need some extra diagnostics work up with your vet to figure this out, or do an diagnostic by exclusion (treating the most common causes to see if helps). Other very important fact to be looked at, is if this "crusty - like" wound was caused by the itching problem and there is another underlying skin allergic reaction happening such as, flea allergy (remember you don't have to see the fleas on your dog for this), food related allergy, atopic allergy, etc. As I don't know for how long you have been treating Cody, so the antibiotic might no had kicked in yet. Cold baths with Chlorhexidine shampoos (you can even buy "Dettol" on supermarket) can give some quick relief.

This sounds quite uncomfortable for Sly! He could be experiencing a skin infection from underlying allergies, ringworm or mange causing these issues. I'm glad to hear that he is on Advantage Multi because this makes a flea allergy seem less likely. However, many dogs are allergic to their foods or a host of environmental factors. At this point, your best bet is to take him to the vet. The vet may need to perform fungal cultures (to rule out ringworm), skin scrapings (to rule out the mites causing mange), or skin cytology (to determine if bacteria is present in these lesions). From there, the vet will be able to prescribe medications (i.e. antibiotics, antifungals, anti-itch, etc.) to try to help Sly. Bathing him every other day could dry out his coat and remove normally present oils, which can make matters worse. I only recommend bathing this frequently when using certain prescription-based medicated shampoos. Under normal circumstances, try not to bathe him more than every 2-3 weeks. You can use a damp cloth to wipe Sly down each time he comes inside to try to remove any pollens clinging to his coat. I hope that all goes well!

It's a little difficult to tell from your picture, but I think the spot on the muzzle looks more like a skin mass or growth that could be infected or inflamed. The other spots look like they might be signs of a bacterial or fungal skin infection which can occur secondary to allergies. I'd recommend having your vet take a look in person.

This looks like a hot spot on Lucky's leg. This usually occurs from excessive licking of the area and an infection that is present in the skin. Lucky will need antibiotics to help clear up the infection. He may also need some allergy medication to prevent the area from coming back. The bumps behind the ears are probably due to allergies as well. I would recommend a trip to your vet to get some antibiotics for the leg and possibly some allergy medication if indicated.
