My dog pulled on leash, now won't put weight on leg. Is he hurt?

There is a possibility that your dog tore a cruciate ligament in his knee. I would make him rest, ie only leash walk him to do his business outside, and otherwise not let him run or jump around. If the lameness is not gone tomorrow or significantly better, then I suggest you make an appointment with your vet for an exam. Your dog will need anti-inflammatory medication to reduce inflammation and pain.

Unfortunately, if he is not really using it, it does hurt. I would be concerned about a cruciate ligament rupture in a big dog that was playing for a few hours yesterday. Terriers are tough cookies and can handle a lot of pain before showing it. Since he is putting weight on the leg he likely did not break anything. He may just be sore or may have pulled a muscle or damaged a ligament. Ouch! That looks painful and unfortunately, I think he needs to see a vet. Your vet will be able to do some x-rays to ensure he didn't break any bones which can commonly happen when they get caught up like this. The leash must be removed immediately to relieve the obstruction of the blood flow. If the leg is evidently distorted or broken or her foot is cold to touch she needs urgent vet care otherwise monitor for a reduction in swelling and discomfort over 12 hours or so

I am so sorry to hear that your pet is immobile and seemingly in a serious medical condition. Yes pulling on the leash too hard, can potentially cause damage to a pets vertebrae, especially if it was a quick yank or if the pet was running and then abruptly stopped mid run. The fact that he is yelping when attempting to get up is highly suspicious of a neck injury. I would recommend taking Jake to your local vet immediately! He needs to get some immediate pain control and x-rays of his neck (cervical) area to determine the extent of damage here.
