My dog is crying, sad, and inactive. Vet says leg bone popping. What to do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly neck or back pain. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Chico evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Chico feel better. In the meantime, reduce his activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Poor Bloo! He could have strained a ligament or muscle causing him pain. I would have him seen by a vet for this problem within the next day or two. Until he sees the vet, rest him. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done. The vet can diagnose what is causing him pain, and can treat him for it. The vet also prescribe pain medications as needed. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

I am so sorry to hear this! If he is seeming painful with his front leg and you are hearing a popping noise, I would be concerned something has been dislocated or is broken. I would highly recommend taking him in for an X-ray to diagnose it! If it is a dislocation they can be very painful and are easier to treat if seen ASAP. I hope this helps!

Hello and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Charlie sounds like he is having an issue that comes and goes. The most common causes of lameness in his back legs at his age are a ligament tear, knee cap luxation (moves out of its normal groove), followed by a foreign object stuck in his paw. It is also possible that he simply strained a hip muscle. No matter the case, he needs to be evaluated by a vet to determine exactly which. He may just need a little rest and anti-inflammatory therapy, but a sedated exam and radiographs may be needed to rule out significant disease that could need surgery to fix. Do not give anything over the counter for his discomfort as those medications can be quite harmful to Charlie. Keep him from running around and playing too hard until you can get him in to be evaluated by a veterinarian. While I'd recommend having him seen as soon as you can, his condition should be okay to wait for a day or two if you can't get into your vet right away. However, if his pain is unbearable, you may want to take him to an emergency vet tonight. Hope this helps, and I hope Charlie gets to feeling better soon!

It could be arthritis but it could also be a soft tissue injury or something else entirely. I can't really say much just based on one yelp. Where on his body were you touching when he yelped? His head? Could be an ear problem. His neck or back? Could be a soft tissue injury or arthritis. I don't suggest you do anything but keep him calm, warm and comfortable. Minimize activity so he doesn't continue to aggravate the situation and just get him to the vet when you can especially if he continues to cry out like he is in pain. Over the counter medications are really not recommended and can cause more problems if you don't know what you are treating.

I would take Casper into a vet today. He sounds painful, which is why he won't walk on the leg and cries when you touch it. He could have injured it, broken a bone, or torn a ligament. I would suspect that Bambino's whimpering and crying is due to pain. A fractured leg would be very painful, and he is on pain medication to help with that pain. Be sure to give it as directed, and if you feel that maybe it's not helping, discuss with his vet possibly using another pain medication for him. Best of luck, I hope this helps.
