My Chihuahua has labyrinthitis and can't walk. Is there a treatment?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 3.9 lbs

My little Chihuahua has had labyrinthitis for a year now, the doctors told us he could live a normal life, but the problem would grow as he aged. About a week ago he stopped moving all of a sudden. He would cry if we tried to lift him up. We took him to a veterinarian nearby the next day, where they gave him a treatment and gave him b-complex shots. As the days passed he improved a bit, but is still unable to walk, I'm really worried he might not improve at all. Is there a treatment for this?

Hi, thank you for using PetCoach. If Louie is not improving I recommend rechecking with his veterinarian. In some cases where labyrinthitis or vestibular signs are caused by an ear infection treatment can be instituted and may cure the problem. However some cases may be caused by tumors or trauma supportive care may be the only treatment. Please talk to his vet to see if what else they may recommend for Louie. https://www.vetinfo.com/labyrinthitis-in-dogs.html
