My spayed Husky won't eat, has kennel cough. Should I see vet?

I'm sorry Bailey isn't feeling well. I recommend taking her to a veterinarian tomorrow to have them listen to her. It can be viral or bacterial but if it's viral it can take up to 2 weeks to resolve. If it is bacterial she needs antibiotics. It may not be pneumonia and she may just be expelling some of the phlegm from the kennel cough. Regarding your other dog, they were already exposed. Kennel cough doesn't have a cure, the medications are used to lessen the severity of the symptoms, but it sounds like the disease is getting a bit worse. I would rest her tonight, keep her in a well humidified area, and use a harness instead of a collar when you take her out to potty to minimize coughing. You can also try bringing her into the bathroom with you when you shower as the steam may help with her congestion. Try gently warming up really smelly wet food to tempt her to eat. Dogs won't eat if they can't smell their food, so gently warming it may entice her to eat. I would have her seen by a vet again in the morning since her symptoms have become more severe. Hi. Poor Rylee. The first thing I would say is that you need to take her to the ER this evening. Respiratory distress can be very serious. In Raley's case, it sounds like her kennel cough could be turning into pneumonia. She will need a good exam, and radiographs. That is most likely the issue and a common occurrence in severe kennel cough cases. Unfortunately another possibility we have to keep in the back of our mind, although rare, would be distemper virus. Distemper is a virus that affects a dog’s respiratory, gastrointestinal, respiratory and central nervous systems, as well as the conjunctival membranes of the eye. The signs of canine distemper can include sneezing, coughing and thick mucus coming from the eyes and nose. Fever, lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea, and loss of appetite are also symptoms of the virus. Let's start with an exam a x-rays of the chest a review of her vaccine status. Good luck

That's not good! It sounds like poor Maddisyn may be getting sicker. Try to tempt her to eat by offering her some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice soaked in low sodium chicken broth. If she refuses to eat this, have her seen by a vet first thing in the morning. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luna. I do recommend that she sees a veterinarian today. Her incision appears to be healing well. I do not see redness, swelling or discharge draining out. However, pictures can be deceiving. I am more worried that she is not eating. The diarrhea needs to be addressed as well. The veterinarian will examine her and take her temperature. A fever, for example, can indicate an infection. If you stopped her medications, which is reasonable given the diarrhea, she may be very painful now though. This too can affect appetite. The veterinarian will guide you on any testing or treatment options. In the meantime, keep her quiet, encourage her to drink so she doesn't become dehydrated and do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I am so sorry to hear that Bailey is not feeling well. The signs you are describing worry me that Bailey is not recovering well. Sunken eyes can be a sign of dehydration, and dirrhoea may be a reaction to one of He medications used or the start of an infection. I would advise calling the veterinarian who performed the procedure. I am fairly certain they will want to see Bailey back in for her recheck earlier then normal. In the meantime provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast and steamed rice. You can use some of the stock form the boiled chicken to help hydrate her as well. Boiled sweet potato with skin removed is also helpful for dirrhoea.

Poor Baby! I am sorry she isn't feeling good. The symptoms you have mentioned make me concerned that Baby may have some sort of respiratory issue-kennel cough, pneumonia. I would recommend contacting your regular vet and arrange for her to be seen today. Advise them she has just come from a shelter situation, as repsiratory diseases can be quite contagious. They will likely ask for you to keep Baby in the car until they are ready to bring her into an exam room. Your vet will do a thorough exam, listen to Baby's heart and lungs. They may recommend some diagnostics such as X-rays and bloodwork too. Depending on the issues identified treatment may range (assuming it is a respiratory issue) from oral medications and rest at home, to hospitalization with IV fluids, oxygen therapy and injectable medications.
