Cataracts are fairly common in dogs. There are some potential complications of cataracts, but if it is only in one eye, it may just be something that needs to be monitored. She doesn't appear walleyed in the images provided. She is absolutely adorable! Strabismus is typically hereditary. There is no treatment for inherited strabismus. Unfortunately, the certification does not include genetic testing. The parents may be of normal phenotype and appear normal, but can carry the abnormal genotype responsible for the condition.

Heterochromia in dogs means the dog has two different colored eyes. This is usually no cause for concern unless there is an underlying medical condition. Luna's eyes are the same color. Oh my goodness, he is the cutest boy! I can see why you say he's the best boy. It could be that he does have microphthalmia, that one eye is much smaller than the other. The condition itself isn't painful, but it can lead to things such as glaucoma, which is painful. Cataracts can also be another complication of this genetic condition. I would recommend having him seen by a vet yearly to make sure there aren't any complications developing such as cataracts or glaucoma, but that shouldn't stop you from adopting him. This trauma probably caused a trauma in the anterior chamber and possibly a corneal damage as well. Pain is involved due to the size of pupil and blinking. An immediate check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. Hi there and thanks for posting. Yes, what Susan is experiencing is called Anisocoria; one pupil is larger than the other. Sometimes this can occur due to an injury to the cornea (she currently has), injury to the nerves of the eyes, or brain injury. It can also be caused by glaucoma of the eye, or severe inflammation of the interior portion of the eye. I would recommend Susan see her veterinarian again vet very soon to check for any other underlying conditions besides the corneal ulcer that may have caused or contributed to the anisocoria.
