Do pet insurance companies need vet notes or a medical summary?

I assume by papers you mean his vaccine records. It’s ideal to have the vaccine records but in general it is not necessary. We are not a veterinary clinic so we do not deal with pet insurance. Vet clinics do not "accept" insurance per se. You take the pet into the vet clinic for treatment and you pay the bill. Then you submit a claim to the insurance company and they reimburse you directly. The vet can fill out a form for you if need be but they do not deal directly with the insurance company.

In most cases, you'll need owner permission in order for records to be transferred over, so while you can contact the vet, you may not be able to obtain full records. That said, they may at least be able to confirm neuter/vaccine status for you so you can let your vet know. If you can't get any records, you can also have your current vet perform a titer test to see where Wooly's immunity levels are, and then booster vaccines from there.

There are many pet insurances available right now, and they are all slightly different in coverage and how you are reimbursed for medical issues. Most will require that you pay the vet the full bill, and then will reimburse you a percentage of the cost of the bill, so keep in mind that you will still need to be able to pay the vet bill at the time of service. You can get pet insurance for any breed, papers or not. I like Trupanion, but I know some places that offer car insurance also offer pet insurance (like Nationwide or Progressive). You will have to call around. They usually will not cover any existing problems however. Good luck in your search!

Yes this is very important when transferring doctors. Your vet can either print the records for you to pick up or they can email them to your new clinic. Just ask the vetco you will be using which they prefer. That way the new doctor will know what to recommend for your pet at the visit.
