My dog has an insect bite. Can I give Benadryl with Gabapentin and Meloxicam?

Gabapentin and Benadryl are ok to give at the same time, however you should consult with your vet as your vet knows your dog's history and can assess the necessity/impact of Benadryl on your dog. It is likely that Benadryl in combination with the gabapentin makes your dog sleepy.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Kyle. You are giving Benadryl plus Congestion. Unless specifically directed to do so by his veterinarian, I would stop this medication. He should be receiving just Benadryl which contains only diphenhydramine. Some dogs will require ongoing doses of steroids to keep the swelling down in the days following the reaction. His veterinarian may prescribe an antibiotic for the wounds that have started as well. I recommend contacting his veterinarian and see if a recheck appointment is necessary to discuss his medication. Hello, benadryl will definitely treat an allergic reaction, however, if your dog is also bruising and bleeding then that is not a characteristic of an allergic reaction that could be treated with just benadryl. I would recommend having him evaluated for this bruising and bleeding as benadryl will likely note treat this on its own. Hope this helps and best of luck!!!

Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is often given as a pre-treatment prior to giving treatment for heartworm disease to prevent a reaction, so there aren't any specific counterindications to using it in a dog with heartworm disease. However, if your dog is still itchy 24 hours after getting a vaccine, I would fear a worsening reaction, and I would recommend taking him in for a dose of a stronger medication - a steroid - which will definitively work and stop any reaction, as well as the itchiness. I find that Benadryl (used orally) is rarely very effective at stopping itchiness in dogs.

You can give her some Benadryl. The standard dosage for oral Benadryl is 1 mg per pound of body weight, given 2-3 times a day. Make sure Benadryl tablets contain only diphenhydramine and no other medications. You should verify this with your veterinarian. Benadryl is of the same class of medication as Piriton.
