What inherited eye conditions can cause bleeding in my puppy's eye?

Hyphema (blood in the front chamber of the eye, in front of the iris and pupil) can be caused by a number of different things including trauma to the eye, an eye infection, retinal detachment, or a systemic problem such as a clotting disorder or even some types of cancer. This is always a concerning sign, and should be checked out by a veterinarian as soon as possible to find out what's going on and see what kind of treatment is needed.

The most common causes of hyphema are: * Injury or trauma to the eye or head * Retinal detachment or dysplasia * Hypertension - high blood pressure * Infection by certain parasites * Vasculitis - leaking blood vessels * Uveitis - inflammation of the front part of the eye * Cancer - uveal neoplasia and lymphoma (most common) * Glaucoma - increased eye pressure Some of these things may be life threatening. Therefore, its diagnosis and proper treatment is very important. I suggest you get Mara to your vet for an exam as soon as possible.

Cherry eye is a disorder of the tear gland and can become infected which can cause it to bleed. Your veterinarian may recommend antibiotics or steroids for the eye temporarily. Ultimately, corrective surgery is often needed for cherry eye which can be done by your veterinarian.

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Poor Blacky. If at all possible, Blacky needs to go to an emergency clinic right now. This could be as minor as a skin scrap, or as severe as a ruptured eyeball. If you are unable to get to an emergency clinic, use a warm wash cloth to clean off his face and get to a vet as soon as possible if he's squinting or his eye looks odd in any way.
