My dog has infected paws. Can Epsom salt baths provide relief?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boston Terrier | Male | neutered | 8 years and 11 months old | 15 lbs

I have a boston terrier he is 9 years old and his paws are infected and have puss forming. I set up an appointment for a vet for Monday morning, but until then I’d like to give him some relief. Can i soak his feet in an epsom salt bath?

Yes, you can do an epsom salt bath for his feet for 5-10 minutes 1-2 times a day and then rinse and VERY gently pat dry. Do not give him any human pain medications or aspirin at home because they are actually toxic to dogs. If Charlie is so uncomfortable that he can sleep or eat, I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic before Monday. I hope he's feeling better soon!
