My dog has a bite wound. Can I treat it at home without a vet?

My dog was bite by something possibly a spider and we dont have alot of money so is there anything i can do other then taking him to a vet i have pictures of wound

This does look like an infection and ideally you should take your dog to a veterinarian for an exam and medication against pain and infection.
You can try to bathe the foot in very warm epsom salt solution for 10 minutes three times daily which may help the infection or the abscess to ripen, open up and evacuate any untoward infectious material. If the paw does not improve within two to three days or if the paw gets worse you will need to take Chance to your vet.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You could try to use chlorhexidine containing pads topically which could help with a mild superficial secondary infection if present. You may find this online or at your local pet store. If no improvement or most importantly there is worsening, he really should be evaluated by a veterinarian especially if a spider bite seems likely as those can be very painful. That's quite big! Try soaking Ajay's paw in an Epsom salt bath to see if that helps, and keep an eye on him. If the bump gets bigger, or he starts to show signs of an allergic reaction, have him seen by an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him right away. Otherwise, take him into the vet in the morning.

It is hard to tell for sure from the picture, but it may be either a bug bite or an abscess. I would recommend soaking the paw in a warm Epsom salt bath daily. Beyond that you really can't do anything topically to help much with either of these conditions and oral medication over the counter isn't safe for pets. I would continue to monitor it for the next 24 hrs to see if it gets any better or worse. If it seems too painful, then a vet visit is needed to have your vet prescribe safe pet friendly anti-inflammatory/pain medication and antibiotics (if this is an abscess). Drainage is needed also if this is an abscess, which often is done with the a mild sedative.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to see that Savie is having a problem. This looks like a pustule or pus filled pimple. It could also be a cyst or other swelling. This could certainly be from an insect sting, spider bite, puncture wound, skin infection, etc. I would advise warm compressing the area 2-3 times daily with a warm cloth to see if you can get the area to come to a head and drain. You could also try placing some warm water and Epsom Salts in a basin and make her stand in the water for 5-10 minutes a few times daily. You may need to get her an E collar to prevent her from licking it and prevent the healing. If this lesion gets worse, spreads, or other signs develop, please have your vet take a look at her. They can get a detailed history and perform a physical exam. Diagnostics probably won't be needed unless the situation changes. Your vet can advise you on a sound treatment approach if needed. My dog has infected paws. Can Epsom salt baths provide relief?

Yes, you can do an epsom salt bath for his feet for 5-10 minutes 1-2 times a day and then rinse and VERY gently pat dry. Do not give him any human pain medications or aspirin at home because they are actually toxic to dogs. If Charlie is so uncomfortable that he can sleep or eat, I would recommend taking him to an emergency clinic before Monday. I hope he's feeling better soon!

Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths twice daily for 5 days. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). If the wound does not heal in 5 days a check up would be required. My dog's paw is swollen from a bug bite. What home remedies help?

Poor Teddy! That does look quite sore :( If he's acting normal otherwise, you can try soaking his paw in warm water and Epsom salt for a few minutes, 1-2 times a day - often, this helps to draw out fluid and reduce swelling and irritation from minor sore spots or injuries like this. If he's licking or chewing at his paw, you may also need to place an e-collar (plastic cone) on him to prevent this, so he doesn't continue to make it worse. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, or if the spot seems to be getting larger or Teddy seems excessively painful, it would be best to have this checked by your vet - he may need oral antibiotics and/or anti-inflammatory medication to treat the problem.

My dog's paws are red and raw. What can I put on them until the vet?

I would recommend having him stand in an Epson salt bath for 5-10 minutes 2-3 times a day. You'll have to use the tub for a dog of his size, and make sure the water is just lukewarm and that he doesn't drink any. You can give him his dinner piece by piece over 5 minutes to keep his interest. Once you're able to, definitely get him in to the vet to determine the underlying cause of the sores.
