My puppy has impetigo. Will scratching spread the itchiness?

Impetigo or puppy pyoderma is not usually very itchy, there could be an underlying cause of the itch and Riri may benefit from a checkup with the vet if it isn't getting better in a few days. If it is only impetigo, it should go away on its own without any treatment as it is not caused by bacteria, only changing hormones as she ages. Yes, she is old enough for a bath. You can use a medicated shampoo for itch from the pet store, lather it into her skin and leave for 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.

Impetigo in puppies is also known as puppy pyoderma. It is usually a self-limiting process and will go away without any treatment. To help it go a away a little faster, you can gently clean the area with a dog shampoo that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. I like the DermaPet products, such as DermaPet Benzoyl Peroxide Plus Shampoo and follow the directions on the label. If it starts to spread or doesn't seem better in 3-5 days, you may take Riri to the vet for diagnosis.

At her age I would be concerned she has mange (scabies) due to the itching and locations. It is hard to find and actually mite on them but very easy to treat just to be safe. Some puppies get a puppy pyoderma which is little pustules and bumps on their bellies. Most out grow this but few need antibiotics to help when it occurs. She is young to have allergies but it is not impossible. I would have your vet recheck the skin for mange and do weekly baths to help

Puppy pyoderma is a skin infection that is very common in dogs. This rash won't cause her any problems later in life, and I would not be concerned about it. Once Raven is matured, she should not longer be at risk of getting puppy pyoderma. You can drive up to meet her if you'd like, it would be nice for her to meet her new owner before you take her home :-)

Ellie's temperature is still within normal limits. The high end of the normal temperature range is 102.5 so she is not running a fever. The abdominal skin appears to be infected. I suspect this is puppy pyoderma, which typically needs topical and oral antibiotic therapy. I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Ellie likely needs an oral antibiotic along with a topical cream / spray. Please, take your Charlie to your local vets for an appointment as he will likely need treatment with skin ointment with antibiotic and/or anti-inflammatory agent.
