My dog's wrist is hyperextended. Will a brace help it heal properly?

Wrapping the leg is unlikely to help and an improperly applied bandage could actually do more harm than good. You could look into a custom brace - these along with physical therapy can be successful although they can cost nearly as much as surgery. Otherwise I’d recommend following your vet’s recommendations for medical management.

Usually with cats they do better without splints, bandages, braces. They do not like having things on them. If the limp is not consistent and it is only once in a while I would not bother with a brace. Honestly it is going to be more trouble than it's worth. Many times these things bother us more than they bother them. I don't know how old Mochi is but if he is a young kitten then sometimes once the ligaments strengthen the condition may resolve. What you can do is give him a good joint health supplement which should make him more comfortable. Good job, you are doing the right treatment. I like to leash walk them and only go out for potty breaks. Running and jumping can make it worse. I use ice two to four times daily for five to ten minutes. This should improve in a few days. If Ahyoka is not improving then I would bring her in for an exam and X-ray to make sure there is not a broken bone in her wrist. If it's still ill painful they can prescribe pain medication until it heals. I do not recommend giving any human pain medication. Since the lameness seems to be reoccurring, I would recommend you bring her into a veterinarian for an examination. Young dogs can often experience many conditions that can cause lameness. These can range from conditions such as panosteitis (growing pains) to congenital conditions such as elbow dysplasia, or OCD lesion of either the shoulder or elbow. Certainly a soft tissue injury (muscle strain or sprain) may also be the culprit. Regardless, it may be nice to see if the veterinarian can determine her "pain point" and localize where her lameness is coming from. They will also be able to give you prescription medications that ma help to ease her discomfort. I hope this information helps, good luck and I hope Luna gets some relief soon! :-)

According to a small animal surgical expert on VIN (the veterinary information network): "Treatment involves regular periods of exercise on secure surfaces such as a grassed area. Light supporting bandages may be used to support the carpus in very severely affected cases but splintage should be avoided because it protects the muscles from the load induced by exercise which is essential for the development of increased muscle tone. Most pups respond in 2–6 weeks to this form of treatment and the prognosis is good." I would speak to Hulk's vet about treatment for his condition.

A full assess ment and xrays would be needed in order to determine if a brace is likely to help but if the condition is ongoing and the bnes have already moved it may be more painful to adjust them (it may help support the ligaments if there is no underlying bne issue). Xrays would be recommended before applying anything

I am sorry Luna is not acting right and thanks for using pet coach. It is possible that Luna has strained a ligament or even soft tissue. I would recommend restricting her activity for two weeks. This includes being on a leash when outside and no running/jumping. However at anytime if she is getting worse or not improving I would recommend taking her to a vet for a good exam. I hope that helps
