My dog was hit by a door. How to tell if he's hurt and needs a vet?

Jim could still have been hurt from the door slam without a cry because dogs are stoic and sometimes do not display vocal signs of pain. That being said, however, as long as he is moving around normally and behaving normally, he is likely just fine.

Poor Ryleigh! If all of these symptoms are new since he was accidently hit by the door, then I would strongly recommend to have a vet look at him. They can take x-rays if needed to ensure there isn't any bones broken. With him being older, I would also worry about arthritis. Your vet will be able to determine what meds would help him feel better. If you don't already, I would also put him on some joint supplements. I really liked dasuquin, flexadin with UC-II, and even duralactin. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better really soon!

Hello there, It's difficult to advise without a physical exam, as a swelling could be anything from a bruise to a serious hernia. I would recommend keeping a close eye on him for ability to walk, urinate, and defecate. Inability to do these things could indicate spinal cord trauma. I would recommend a trip to his regular vet in the morning to have the swelling examined and perhaps some pain medications. I hope this helps. It definitely doesn't appear to be an emergency, so no need for an expensive vet visit. If he's not sensitive to touch or limping and is acting normal, then it's likely that he was not badly injured. I would also check for any cuts or swelling. If you don't see any of these signs of injury, then I would not be concerned and would not recommend any special treatment. If you do happen to notice a sign of injury, then it would be best to have him seen by a vet, but can likely wait for the daytime vet to be open. Oh no, poor Roscoe! Accidents happen, and likely getting hit did hurt him but if he's not showing any pain when you press on his ribs, he's likely ok. Keep an eye on him for now, and if he is limping in the morning, becomes lethargic or anorexia, if his chest area appears swollen, or the area becomes painful to the touch, I would have him seen by a vet.

In my experience, injuries like this often take a bit of time to manifest. Usually there is at least some soreness involved, and even though it doesn't sound like anything is broken, I would recommend a vet visit to be sure. It's kind of like straining something at the gym - you often don't feel the pain for several hours, and you vet can give him a bit of an anti-inflammatory pain medication to help him be more comfortable.

Oh no - poor pooch! Even if he does not seem painful limping is a sign of pain in the leg. He may have a simple bruise or sprain, but broken bones are also very common after being hit by a car. I would recommend seeing a veterinarian as soon as possible. It sounds like this may have happened a little while ago since the rash on his stomach has healed, but if it was recent you should see a veterinarian as soon as possible since internal injuries are sometimes not obvious right away.
