My puppy got trapped under garage door. Is he injured or okay?

It can be difficult to tell for sure if your dog is in pain, however I'd have to say given the recent events (the door slamming on him) and his inability to settle (wandering the house) it's likely that he is. Hopefully he sustained just a bit of muscular trauma that's leading to soreness, but if he isn't completely back to normal at this point (i.e. he's comfortable and you can easily pick him up and interact with him without him showing signs of pain) then I would for sure take him in to see his vet, as he could have broken a rib, and that injury can have serious consequences, such as puncturing lung tissue.

Yes, I think he’ll be fine. Luckily puppies are very resilient and many minor injuries heal quickly in young animals. If there was a serious head injury he would be lethargic, not responsive or not eat or drink normally. He may have some discomfort on his head for a day or so but probably no lasting issues. When animals are sleepy after a hit on the head, which is the my biggest concern for what you are describing, it could be that they have a condition called 'cerebral edema'. Your vet will check for this by assessing your puppies mentation, pupil size and shape and responsiveness, blood pressure, heart rate, and the rest of his physical exam. This, if present, is very serious and sometimes can be fixed and sometimes cannot be fixed. Your vet, if they feel that cerebral edema is present, will give a drug called Mannitol, or will give a drug called 'Hypertonic Saline', to try to decrease this pressure. I am glad you brought Bentley to the vet, that is the best place for him. If you are concerned about Bentley then I recommend you call the clinic and get an update on Bentley, as we cannot know his prognosis without knowing exactly what is happening. Oh no, poor Lioh! I see your post was about six hours ago, and if Lioh is in pain, having trouble moving or breathing, or is very lethargic, then I would have him seen by an ER vet immediately. If there isn't an ER vet clinic in your area, then there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to find that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. If Lioh is behaving normally, eating and drinking, and going to the bathroom normally, then he is likely fine :-)

It's possible that he just sprained or jammed something. I'd let him rest for a bit but if he continues to be painful or won't use it then get him seen. He may have a fracture or dislocation if he hit hard enough. If he's crate trained out him to rest in there for a bit to see if he settles. Do not give otc medicines for pain!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Max! It's a good sign that he ate and drank. It's hard to say if he will be fine with out examining him. Sometimes internal injuries do not show up right away, things like internal bleeding in the chest or belly, bruising on the lungs (contusions), abnormal air around the lungs (pneumothorax), diaphragmatic hernias, trauma to the urinary bladder. The obvious outward signs like a broken bone, wounds, back or head trauma you would have seen right away. I would rest him and keep him calm. Watch for increased and labored breathing, no urine production, lethargy and pale gums. He will likely be sore tomorrow. If anything changes he should be taken to an emergency hospital. It isn't wrong to have him checked out now and get pain medications in case he is sore tomorrow. I hope this helps and I wish Max the very best!

Hello there, It's difficult to advise without a physical exam, as a swelling could be anything from a bruise to a serious hernia. I would recommend keeping a close eye on him for ability to walk, urinate, and defecate. Inability to do these things could indicate spinal cord trauma. I would recommend a trip to his regular vet in the morning to have the swelling examined and perhaps some pain medications. I hope this helps.
