My old dog was hit by a car. Why isn't she walking after the vet?

She could have been bumped by the car or is sore from running so far after being scared. If she is suffering from a strain or sprain I would rest her and have her evaluated by your Vet Monday. Hello, sorry to hear about Macie. Yes indeed she could have a broken bone after being hit by car. She could also have torn a ligament or another soft tissue structure in her joint. This is likely causing her to be lame and not want to walk on her leg. She will need to have x-rays of her leg and a full orthopedic and neurologic examination to ensure she does not have an injury. Alternatively, she may be sore from the trauma of the car hitting her and she may need 3-5 days to improve. Despite this, any pet that was hit by a car should be evaluated as some injuries may be internal and this may be difficult to see without a thorough physical exam. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor kebbi. I would be very concerned about possible spinal or pelvic injury, especially with the amount of bruising and inability to stand. Xrays would be recommended to determine the extent of any bone injury, alongside pain relief and antiinflammatory meds to reduce swelling around the affected area which can lead reduced nerve function

Besides monitoring and resting her, there isn't much more you can do at home, especially if she has internal injuries and/or any fractures or other orthopedic injuries. If she isn't walking on her hind limbs than she could have a fracture, dislocated hip, etc and may need treatment, depending on the cause. Without an x-ray, it is impossible to know the extent of her injury. She really needs to be seen by a vet to examine her and determine if treatment is needed. If you are unable to take her to a vet than you could rest her and monitor for improvement. You could use a towel sling under her belly to help get her outside to use the bathroom.

I'm so sorry to hear about Kamie. It certainly sounds like she is in a lot of pain. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine her again. Sometimes we are not able to determine the full extent of their injuries right after an accident, but are able to make a better diagnosis after a day or 2. Your veterinarian may also need to prescribe or adjust her pain medication. I would not recommend giving her any over the counter pain medication without speaking with your veterinarian since some will increase the risk of bleeding and may interact with pain medication that your veterinarian may prescribe. It sounds like your dog is likely in extreme pain, and he needs veterinary attention immediately. He may have fractures, internal injuries and bleeding, and may even have neurological issues from being hit by the car. If you mean that he is unable to urinate, that is a medical emergency, and requires immediate veterinary care. Your vet will assess him and recommend appropriate treatment, which will likely include pain medication, imaging and possibly surgical repair. Do not give pain medication to him without checking with your vet, as pain medications for humans can be toxic to dogs. Good luck, and I hope he feels better soon!

I would take Gulli back into a vet immediately. It's quite serious that she has completely stopped walking, and she could have a serious problem with her back, neck, and/or hips preventing her from walking. She needs x-rays to diagnose what is causing the problem as well as further treatment. Please bring her into the vet. Good luck, I hope this helps!
