Will my dog's healed hip fracture cause issues during delivery?

Yes, Uling should be fine to give birth. Hip dysplasia should not affect labor and delivery at all. Hip dysplasia affects the outer portion of the pelvis where the femur (leg bone) attaches to the pelvis. During birth, the puppies pass through the middle of the pelvis, or the pelvic canal. As long as Uling does not have a previous history of having a narrowed pelvis (usually caused from a trauma like being hit by a car) there is no indication to worry. Occasionally, dogs of any breed or size can experience dystocia, which is a term for the difficulty of delivering pups. Unfortunately you cannot be sure if this is going to happen or not until the dog is in labor. Once Uling is in labor, and having active contractions, she should have a pup about every 30 minutes. Yes she could be pregnant as males can be fertile at 5 months of age. She can carry a litter of pups, but her pelvis may be too narrow to give birth normally. Best is to discuss this with your vet who can do xrays of the pelvis and determine whether it will be possible for her to give birth without needing a cesarian section. If you do not want her to have pups and do not want the risk in the future I suggest you have her spayed.

That is not a general rule valid for everyone and, as far as my knowledge goes, there is no scientific studies to prove that. I can say that is definitively true that chihuahua often require c-section, regardless their age. I would suggest to have Jing checked during pregnancy to determine the exact number of puppies, their vitality and her condition and make sure everything runs smoothly. Hip dysplasia means that the dog has poor hip conformation, with the ball of the femur not tight into the hip joint. Due to the joint looseness arthritis usually develops as the dogs age. A hip joint fracture sounds more like it was from a specific injury. With rest a hip fracture should heal over six weeks but if the hip joint is involved then Jenny may get hip arthritis and pain in her hip. Heat will relax her muscles and increase the blood supply to heal the fracture so it is a good thing to do. Please keep her in a small area and take her out only to the bathroom for a month. Hip dysphasia is not fatal. However it is genetic and can be passed to her puppies. I would recommend talking to your vet about pain management and joint supplements she can take while pregnant. I hope that helps

Typically, however, I will agree with the vet's assessment because they are the one who can see Floofer in person and make the best and most accurate assessment. Since a fracture pelvis can heal naturally, a vet will recommend trying that if they feel it's a viable treatment option. In this case, if the vet is recommended surgery, then likely a natural healing is not possible. Leaving it without surgery in this case could cause the pelvis to heal incorrectly, it may not be possible depending on the severity and place of the fracture in the pelvis (certain fractures in the pelvis cannot heal naturally and require surgery), and/or leaving it to heal naturally could cause damage to the nerves affecting his ability to walk correctly.
