My dog has heavy, blocked nose breathing while sleeping. What's wrong?

There can be a variety of causes ranging from infections with bacteria or fungus, an infection of a tooth root causing swelling or abscess into nasal passages, a nasal polyp, or a tumor. These would all be treated differently. In the meantime you can try steam treatments placing her in the bathroom while you run a steamy shower for 10-15 minutes, which may help if this is congestion due to mucus buildup.

You can ask for a chest x-ray to see what Moka's heart and lungs look like, as well as a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis. These would be good tests to start with and further tests can be done as needed. I hope this helps!

Molly is such a cutie! It could be that she picked up a respiratory infection or kennel cough when she was boarded. I would have her seen by a vet for this, but there's no need to rush her into a vet asap as long as she is eating and drinking normally, isn't extremely lethargic, and isn't having difficulty breathing. I can give you something to try at home to see if that helps with her breathing, but have her seen by a vet in the morning. You can try using a humidifier or bringing her into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections.

I would get her in to see your vet. Since the snoring and breathing noise is a recent development, it could mean she has a tumor or polyp somewhere in her upper respiratory tract that is causing the problem. Catching it early is the best for a good outcome.
