When will my dog go into heat after May 1st, and is she safe at home?

Dogs come into heat twice a year, so it is usually 4 months after having puppies. However, there is quite a range on when heat can happen, and every individual dog is different, so it is possible that Daisy could be in heat right now. If you don't want her to get bred on her next heat cycle, then you will need to keep both dogs completely separated since you cannot guarantee that you will know when she is in heat without regular hormone testing. Hello. In general, dogs will come into heat every 6 months. Another in heat dog will not induce your dog to come back into heat, or estrus, but do have her spayed as soon as possible. Not all dogs follow the rules so she could come into heat a little earlier than expected. And dogs can be spayed when in heat. It is a little more dangerous in terms of bleeding, & so vets often charge a little more to spay a dog in heat. So Bella should not come back into heat until late May or June.
