My dog's head twitches for minutes. Is it a seizure? When to worry?

I am sorry there is no video attached to this link. I would recommend taking Monty to the vet and showing them the videos. in some breeds like bull dogs they do get idiopathic head tremors (we are not sure why head tremors) that are non harmful and do not have a treatment. However in other breeds it could be a focal seizure and needs more attention. A vet visit would be the best place to start. I hope that helps

That sounds like Jb had a seizure. I would recommend taking him in. I like to do blood work including checking thyroid levels. I’m looking for treatable things. He also needs a thorough neurological exam to see if there are any deficits. I don’t usually place on anti-seizure medication for one seizure. I do recommend keeping a seizure log- keeping track of what they were doing, how long it lasted.. etc I have been using Royal Veterinary College App for my personal dog. This isn't normal and without seeing Logan in person, I can't say what is causing it. I'd get a video of him doing this behavior on your phone, then have him seen by a vet. You can show the vet the video. I hope this helps!

That sounds like it could be some kind of seizure activity. Get a video of it if you can and take her to the vet so they can see it and give her an exam. If it is happening only occasionally, they may opt to not do anything but monitor her condition since the medication to treat seizures can be more harmful than for her to have one every now and then. But if it is happening often medication may be the best option since the danger with seizures is your pet's body temperature can become dangerously high is she has a sustained seizure.

Young dogs sometimes suffer from what we call idiopathic seizures (cause unknown) and older dogs that have never had a seizure before, can suffer from a brain tumor causing seizures. You should keep a diary of the seizures: situation that triggers it, time start, time ends, what the seizure looks like. If the seizure lasts more than 4-5 minutes your dog needs to see a vet right away, as this can cause hyperthermia and damage the brain. If you can you should take a little video of one such seizure to take with you to the vet and show him. Please make an appointment with your vet for an exam. He may want to put her on anti-seizure medication such as phenobarbital.

If the episodes occur when Dawn is awake, then I would recommend having a veterinarian evaluate her. If she is having head tremors, it is important to determine if they are benign or seizure based (which can occur even if the rest of her body is not involved). I would also recommend taking a video of them for your veterinarian to be able to evaluate in case she does not have an episode during her appointment. Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
