Why is my 6-year-old pit bull's head hair turning lighter? Should I worry?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 6 years and 4 months old

I have a healthy 6 year old pit bull, caramel tan in color. We've noticed recently he has patches by his ears on top of his head that have changed to a lighter color. Almost as if they were bleached out. Should we be concerned?

If the patches appear to be normal hair then I would not worry about it too much. He may be getting some gray hair which is completely normal as a dog ages. If however there are patches of hair loss or Magoo seems excessively itchy in these areas then he may be having an issue with allergies.
