My dog's stomach is hard, she's whining. Is it a vet emergency?

If she is not crying or moaning than it doesn't sound like she is suffering. Try to keep her comfortable for the night but if she starts to seem distressed than she should be examined by a vet. You could take her to an emergency clinic for an x-ray and tretament. Hope she feels better soon!

Severe abdominal pain in a six year old Shih Tzu warrants veterinary attention some time soon. With this type of pain, I imagine Marble is probably not wanting to move around much, eat, or drink either. I would recommend that she is taken in for x-rays and probably some blood work at minimum to see if there is any underlying condition causing this type of discomfort. It is a little hard to tell from the picture, but it sort of looks like the abdomen is a little bit distended and puffed out. Since this has been going on for a few days already, I don't think I would necessarily call this an emergency. I would however recommend getting in sometime tomorrow.

Poor Luka! If she is in worse pain, yes take her into a vet immediately. I'm wondering if they have checked her uterus. I see that she isn't spayed, and a pyometra (a life threatening infection of the uterus) could be causing her symptoms. Please take her back into a vet now. Best of luck.

I"m sorry Maisey isn't feeling well! More likely with a very hard stomach, she is groaning because she is in pain. Stomach swelling in dogs can also result from the dog eating too much all at once, internal bleeding due to trauma or a ruptured mass, intestinal obstruction, or tumors. Peritonitis and ascites (fluid in the abdomen) can also cause a swollen stomach, as well as Cushing's disease. I recommend you get Maisey into your vet as soon as possible. This has been going on for a few days, and it's clearly not going to resolve on it's own. She needs medical attention from a vet, who can diagnose and treat the problem.

Check the color of her gums. They should be pink. If they are pale or white, you should seek veterinary attention immediately. Poor girl. She may have an overly full stomach or potentially an enlarged organ. It is really hard to say for sure without an exam. Pets this small don't get bloat, so that is not a concern. Based on her symptoms of just seeming uncomfortable, I would let her rest tonight and then if she still seems out of sorts in the morning, it is best to get her seen by your vet. However, if she does seem to pace and develop more symptoms (vomiting, restlessness, diarrhea, etc) tonight, then its best to take her to an ER vet for further evaluation. Poor Chaca! It's very concerning when I hear of a dog that has sudden bloat and a hard belly, not to mention an abnormal stomach. She could have bloat, which is a fatal condition without treatment. I would have Chaca seen by a vet immediately for this, as it is a medical emergency.
