My dog cries when I touch her stomach and won't move. Is it serious?

If she is behaving normally otherwise, try fasting her for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

If he is having abdominal pain then he really should be examined by a vet to determine he cause. He could have an infection, pancreatitis, kidney disease, liver disease, etc and your vet can run labeork and take an X-ray to help diagnose. Hope he feels better soon.

If Itzy just vomited one time and seemed uncomfortable in her belly when touched I would withhold her regular food today and if there is no additional vomiting over the next few hours offer her something very bland like a small amount of boiled chicken skinless breast and white rice. If the vomiting continues or if she continues to yelp when touched I would have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as you can. They can isolate where the pain is originating from (stomach vs back for example) and can treat her as indicated. I hope she s feeling better very soon.

If she is a small breed dog, neck or back pain are common sources of pain. The muscles that line the spine can spasm causing the dog intense pain. If this is not the case, abdominal pain from GI upset or even constipation could be the source of pain. Poor girl. She may have an overly full stomach or potentially an enlarged organ. It is really hard to say for sure without an exam. Pets this small don't get bloat, so that is not a concern. Based on her symptoms of just seeming uncomfortable, I would let her rest tonight and then if she still seems out of sorts in the morning, it is best to get her seen by your vet. The vet needs to feel her belly to try and pinpoint the source of pain and discomfort so that we best know how to treat this moving forward. If she will tolerate a warm Epsoms salt soaking bath, then you can also try that.
