My dog has a hard, brownish spot on her neck after grooming. What is it?

This looks like a scab. He could have gotten this after a little bug bite, a local skin infection, a minor injury from being in the yard, or something else. Since it is so small, I would not be too concerned right now. If it isn't healing, you see discharge, you find more spots, or this spot gets larger, I would have your vet take a look at it to see if he needs any oral meds or other treatment to help it heal. This does not look like a tick. I would observe it and wait until the scab falls off by itself. This lesion should then be healed. If the scab increases in size or the lesion increases in size, you should have a vet examine it..

It doesn't appear to be related to fleas. It could be an injury but it could also be the start of a tumor. I would recommend you leave it alone and monitor it for about a week. Don't pick at it or apply anything to it. If it is just a scab from an injury it should be much improved if not all the way healed in that time frame. If it is virtually the same or just a tad bit improved then I would have your vet check that spot out. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

They look like scratches, that are trying to heal. I would check the ears to make sure there is no wax or infection causes any irritation to scratch in that area. You can place neosporin on the scabs to help dry then up. If they do it GI away after a few days or get worse then I would see your vet

It looks like what we call a hot spot or moist dermatitis. These looks really painful. I would have him seen. He will most likely need some antibiotics and some topical medication to help dry this up. They can also give you something for the itching or pain relief. These usually heal pretty quickly once they stop messing with them.

Many things can cause a small wound like this. If it comes and goes it could be a growth that occasionally becomes irritated and / or infected. Of course trauma could be the cause as well. Warm water compresses can be helpful to keep it clean, but if it doesn't resolve completely it should be evaluated for an underlying problem. I hope it heals quickly! Thanks for using Pet Coach!

This sounds like a sebaceous cyst. They are common in certain breeds of dogs. The waxy sebaceous material builds up and the cyst will become smaller once you squeeze out the material. As long as it doesn’t look infected I would clean it with hydrogen peroxide and leave it alone. Occasionally they become infected or are in an area where they get irritated then I recommend surgical removal. They are usually nothing to be overly concerned about.
