Could my dog's hard back spot after a bite be scar tissue?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 6 years and 11 months old | 16 lbs

My dachshund has a very large hard spot on her upper back. It almost feels like a very tense muscle over her backbone. No tenderness, pain, or sickness. She was attacked and had a small bite mark there she is recovering from. What might this be? Could fibrous scar tissue be that big? It’s way bigger than the bite mark. She has two very small ones around another bite mark above.

Scar tissue can be a factor due to inflammation from healing if the injury deeper affected the muscles. You can apply ice to help with swelling until you can have your vet recheck the area to be sure. Some times further antibiotics and pain meds are needed, sometimes it is healed enough it just needs time
