My Bulldog's hair is hard and falling out after bath. Skin issue?

That spot on Harvey could be several things including allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection or ringworm (which humans can get). Hopefully this is a good sign that his body is fighting the cause since it appears to be healing. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You can wash the lesion once a day (not his whole body, just the lesions). You can apply a dab of organic coconut oil once a day and rub in well (do not allow him to lick the area afterwards). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesion do not start improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have him examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

It really comes down to figuring out what is causing his allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

That is unusual. It's possible he is experiencing some changes in his hormones. Environmental allergies and melatonin responsive dermatosis are also possible. I recommend to start with a physical exam with his veterinarian. This will help to get the process started to determine the cause. She could have a bacterial skin infection which could be related to an allergy. You could bathe her with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. She may need an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory and your vet could prescribe.

Bella looks like she has allergic skin disease, and may have a secondary bacterial or fungal infection. This breed is very prone to allergies, and I also sometimes see mange overgrowth around the eyes in this breed as well. She really needs a skin scraping to see if mites are present, and to get on allergy medication like Apoquel or prednisone, plus antibiotics or antifungals if secondary infection is present.

While it may be a staph infection, it is severe enough that it will require further investigation to check the type of infection and further local treatment with clipping and cleaning and oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. If there is scratching or licking involved, there are medications that could help with that and an e-collar could also be beneficial to prevent further self-trauma if that is the case. I recommend visiting a veterinarian for further asssessmenr and treatment. Best of luck!

Poor Baby! She could have a bacterial skin infection, allergic dermatitis, flea allergy, mites, fungal infection, endocrine disease, etc. You could bathe her with an anti-microbial dog shampoo and see if that helps. If the condition persists then she needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can do a skin scrape, cytology, and culture, if needed, to help diagnose and then treat. Also, use a flea prevention, like Frontline, NexGard, Bravecto, etc. to prevent fleas and ticks.
