My dog is hacking, sad, gassy, and has a stomach ache. What's wrong?

That must be very frustrating for you! It could be an esophageal issue and it may be further testing would be a good idea. I'd speak to her vet about doing an endoscope of her esophagus and stomach to try to diagnose what is causing her issue. I hope this helps!

Mia needs to be examined by her veterinarian. Illness lasting for three years is uncommon and can indicate an ongoing condition such as an immune deficiency, tick borne disease, or a genetically inherited disease. There are blood tests which can check for abnormalities in the genes. A pathologist can check for blood-borne parasites. Antibody titers can check for tickborne disease. Until you know why this is happening, she cannot receive the appropriate treatment. Best of luck.

It sounds like Buster's tummy is upset. This could be due to many reasons including bacterial overgrowth, a medication reaction, stomach acid, dietary intolerance or perhaps an oncoming disease like kidney disease. I recommend to play it safe and have Buster examined. The doctor may recommend to check his blood levels to make sure everything is ok internally. Hello. I am sorry to hear that Rilo has an upset stomach and is fidgety. Any upset stomach can cause pain, and this is likely causing Rilo to be fidgety. If he is unable to settle, is lethargic (quiet/sad), not wanting to eat, or appears to have a distended or bloated (sticking out the sides and hard) stomach or abdomen, he needs to be seen immediately. Also, if he has vomiting and diarrhea he should be seen by a veterinarian. Either way if he is fidgety I would recommend a consult with a vet to get Rilo pain management. If he is otherwise happy, eating/drinking, and urinating and defecating well, and not vomiting, you can try fasting him for 24 hours and see if that improves. Any bloating requires immediate vet care or it can be fatal however, so make sure he has a comfortable and soft stomach when you touch it. I hope he feels better soon.

The cough can be due to an infection, heart enlargement, or a mass. The gas and loss of appetite can be caused by intestinal parasites, eating something she shouldn't have, or intestinal inflammation. A vet can perform a physical exam, bloodwork, and x-rays to determine what is going on and begin the appropriate treatment. Your dog should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. It sounds like he may have a heart condition that is causing fluid buildup in his abdomen. This compresses the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. Your dog may need to be on a diuretic to help him clear that fluid and ease his breathing. But get him in to be seen right away. Your vet will do an exam, blood work and x-rays to determine the cause and suggest an effective treatment plan.

As long as she is acting ok you could monitor her for additional signs. If she starts retching, seems uncomfortable, starts drooling, is painful, or the distension persists then she should be examined by a vet. Your vet can take an X-ray to evaluate her abdomen and determine the exact cause of her problem.
