My dog has a small, growing white bump on his nose. What should I do?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 100 lbs

Small white bump on my dogs nose has gotten larger in the last two weeks. It just appeared about 3 weeks ago. It does not seem to hurt him, but I am not sure what it is. He is a Husky/great Pyranees mix, 1.5 years old

Since the growth is on the nose, it would be best to bring Quinn into your vet for care. Tumors, fungal infections, abrasions, burns, etc can all cause signs like you are seeing, and since some are more serious issues, should be seen and treated, especially if the area is growing rapidly in size. Your vet can take a scraping or biopsy from the area to check under a microscope and see what is going on.

Hello. I would not be too worried about this. Just watch the area, perhaps clean it several times a day with an antimicrobial wash like Hibiclens ( available at all pharmacies ) & if it enlarges or changes, see your vet. Hello. He's very cute!

It's likely that he either injured himself mildly, or had an abrasion there and he's lost the normal nasal tissue in that area due to scarring.

Nothing to be worried about unless it changes, or becomes a raised bump. Then I'd have him checked by your vet.

That may be a scar from an injury when playing with littermates or from the mom. It may be a small wart of some sort also. When she gets her vaccines you can have the vet check that spot to be sure. If the spot begins to get larger then I would get it seen sooner as it may be something contagious such as ring worm

My dog has a growing black bump on her nose. Should I worry?

Ouch! That is a concerning sign, especially since the bump is a different color from the regular skin, and is growing in size. Since it's hard to tell what a bump is without an exam and sample (biopsy, fine needle aspirate), it's best to bring Coco into your vet to have it looked at. They can take the sample, check what kind of growth it is, and safely remove it if needed. In the meantime, keeping an eye on how fast it's growing/size, and keeping Coco from pawing at it or rubbing it can help keep it from getting infected or more irritated.

My dog has a growing bump on her nose. What is it? Is it serious?

A lesion like that could be several things including an ingrown hair, allergies, skin mites, bacterial infection or a skin tumor/mass. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesion once a day (not her whole body, just the lesion). Also protect the area from trauma by having your pup wear an elizabethan collar at all times. If the lesion does not start improving within a week or if it is getting worse, have her examined by the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Why is my 7-month-old dog's nose bump getting bigger?

Dogs can develop bumps on their nose from injury, trauma, bacterial & fungal infections, often from their habit of rooting in dirt, under leaves, bushes, etc. Gauge may need medication to help this heal, especially if it seems to be getting bigger. My dog has small bumps near his nose after being outside. What is it?

Bumps like this are usually a hypersensitivity response to an allergen. Also it could be bug bites that are having a localized reaction. I would recommend monitoring these areas to see if they continue to grow in size or cause pain/irritation. If they do start causing irritation for Snow, then you can place a cold compress on the area for 5 mins tonight and then get Snow seen by your vet tomorrow for further care, if it is still bothersome for Snow. My dog has black bumps on his nose. What are these new bumps?

A couple of things come to mind as possibilities. This could be an acute hypersensitivity reaction to something - bug bite/sting, perhaps - or possibility a severe bacterial infection called furunculosis. There are also some immune-mediated/auto-immune diseases that attack the top of the nose. See your vet about this. An appropriate treatment plan might be to start antibiotics and if no improvement after 2 weeks consider a biopsy to obtain a definitive diagnosis.
