Dog has a growing skin bump. Is it serious if I can't afford a vet?

This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include skin cysts, infections, benign or more malignant type of tumors. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. This may be a pimple (little abscess), cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian as tumors should be removed ASAP. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. Your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning. Since this is obviously bothering your dog (it looks like Bentley is licking it), I would have this examined very soon.

Hi there! From the photo the mass does appear to be a benign papilloma (wart). That being said, it is not easy to tell 100% from a photo. I would still recommend you take Jack to your vet for an exam just to be on the safe side. I do not think it's an emergency situation. The best I can do is to say that it looks like some type of skin growth or infected sore, and definitely looks like something that should be checked by your vet in person when you're able to schedule a visit.

It doesn't appear to be serious, but unfortunately it's not possible to tell from just the picture. I would have to take a sample of it and look under the microscope to tell for sure. However, this bump looks more related to inflammation rather than something serious like skin cancer. This could simply be a boil. Make a salt water solution by adding a tsp. of salt to 2 cups of warm water.
