Can a large, growing lump on my dog's rear be surgically removed?

My sisters dog has a external tumor or a sac filled with fluids on his behind side. My sister does not care. I saw it about 2 years ago and it was about the size of a penny. I recently visited last week and now it is the size of a baseball hanging by a piece of skin. If i want it taken care of, i will have to be the one to get it done. I live in a different state so taking him to different vets is a bit hard. I just need to know if this is something that can even be cut off. 11yr chihauha

Yes, typically lumps can be removed. Given that it has gotten bigger on Casino, it would be best to have the lump diagnosed and removed. It could be a cyst, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. I would take Casino into he vet tomorrow if possible.

Poor guy. This is a skin mass and needs to be tested by your vet to determine what kind of tumor this is. If it seems to be growing uncontrollably then having it surgical removed should be considered. Unfortunately without seeing Remington in person, I can't say for certain what is causing this lump. It could be a cyst or a tumor, and you did absolutely the right thing by taking him into the vet. I think surgical excision is likely the best option in this case, the vet can submit to the laboratory to have it diagnosed. If conventional treatment has not prevented Lacy from getting at the mass, then have her seen by your veterinarian. She may need to have it surgically removed. Once that is done, it can be submitted for pathology to make sure it isn't anything to worry about. It could be a benign skin mass (sebaceous adenoma) that is common in older dogs. Removing it does not guarantee it will not regrow or keep others from popping up.

Diamond needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. This could be a cyst, an abscess or a necrotic tumor. It looks like it could be infected whatever the cause. If it is a cyst or tumor, it will need to be removed. If it is an abscess, it will need a drain. It probably does hurt. She needs an exam, possible diagnostics, medications to address and infection (if present) and pain. She also needs an elizabethan collar so she cannot lick the area. I hope they figure out the cause quickly.

My dog has a lump under skin. Is waiting for removal too long?

If the lum has not gotten bigger and remains stable in size and character, I think it is safe to wait until the 18th for removal. Your veterinarian is likely concerned the mass is cancerous. Therefore she is likely recommending removal for a better diagnosis. It really could be anything, from an infected cancerous mass or an infected benign mass. Removal of the mass and sending it for histopathology would be the gold standard for diagnosis and prognosis.
