My dog has green eye gunk, won't eat, and is very sick. What to do?

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | neutered | 11 years and 5 months old | 15 lbs

Dog has green mucus in eyes, will not eat but does drink water, will not walk around too much just lays all day and has for 3 days now. Cannot get to the vet til Monday and he does not seem to be getting better. Advice what to do?

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Timmy evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I would encourage you to consider an emergency veterinarian. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

I am sorry to hear that Pippa isn’t feeling well. If she still isn’t back to normal by tomorrow morning then she should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. She will probably need an x-Ray to make sure she doesn’t have an intestinal obstruction. As far as the eyes go I would use a warm water compress to help with the discharge. Often dogs will have excess discharge when they don’t feel well for other reasons. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

I am sorry to hear about Pancho! His photo looks like he doesn't feel well for sure! It sounds like he could potentially have a respiratory infection. Sometimes the infection can be viral, other times it can be bacterial or a combination of the two. If he is having green discharge from his eyes and nose, and is coughing so much he vomits and has a decreased appetite he should see a vet to ensure he doesn't have pneumonia and to determine if he needs to be treated with antibiotics. I would call your vet in the morning. If he starts having difficulty breathing he should go to the emergency vet. You can help him feel better by putting him in a room with a humidifier, or if you don't have a humidifier putting him into the bathroom while you run a steamy shower for 10 minutes to provide a steam treatment for him. Keep his nose and eyes clean by wiping with a clean damp cloth. Best of luck to you and Pancho!

It sounds as though Tillie may have an infection and may need a systemic antibiotic to help fight the infection. The sooner Tillie is seen by a veterinarian and put on a course of an oral antibiotic, the better and the less chances this infection has of becoming more severe. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Noah. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He may have an eye infection given the discharge. He also sounds like he is having gastrointestinal upset as well. Based on his exam findings, his veterinarian may recommend fecal testing to look for intestinal parasites or another type of infection. From there, medications can be prescribed to help him feel better. I hope this information helps!

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for Athena at home, she has to see a vet immediately. It sounds like she could have an eye infection, and that requires medication from the vet to treat. It's also serious she doesn't want to eat, and that could be caused by a systemic illness, infection, or inflammation. I would see if there is a low cost clinic in your area, ask your vet if they will accept payment plans, contact a local animal shelter for help, or apply for credit to afford the vet. I would see if anyone can loan you at least $10 each, and if you can get a number of family and friends to loan you that amount, you could raise enough to see a vet. She does have to see a vet ASAP, and I hope that my advice helps you find the money to afford a vet.

My dog has eye issues and isn't eating. What could be wrong?

This looks like very severe allergies or a condition like mange though other possibilities like immune mediated disease still have to be considered. This can be differentiated based on physical examination and basic diagnostics. This must be really painful and for that reason I highly recommend that you have Callie evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible. Her decreased appetite is likely due to discomfort. They would be able to check for these possibilities and most importantly, treat her accordingly. If she has been scratching at her eyes, I highly recommend using an e-collar to prevent further self trauma. Good luck and have a good night!
