Dog has green eye discharge from one eye. Why aren't drops working?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 5 years and 4 months old | 88 lbs

There is green discharge coming out of my dogs one eye only earlier he had tear stains on that eye but now green mucus comes after few hrs my veterinarian advice me to use Ciprofloxacin eye drops for that but it snot effective anymore only one is produces green discharge ... i need a possible cause and solution for this problem thank you

It's likely to be an eye infection although it could also be an eye injury or a foreign body in the eye. you need to take Tiger to the vet in order to get the eye checked first, then your vet can give you the treatment according to the diagnosis.

Green discharge generally indicates an infection. The most common reasons for infections are bacteria (like a pink eye) or a scratch to the eye. If Zeus is squinting the eye or has excessive tearing, or seems otherwise uncomfortable, I recommend to have him seen today. You can try rinsing his eye out with sterile saline daily. If he still has the discharge by Monday, then it's not likely to go away on it's own and he should be seen. I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. It sounds like Zeus could have an eye infection or suffered injury to his eye, and he has to see a vet immediately. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I would take Zeus into a vet right away to have his eye examined and diagnosed so his eye can be treated.

It looks as Bubba is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.

Poor Zeus! It looks like he could have an eye infection, and that is likely uncomfortable and painful for him. Unfortunately I cannot tell you what eye drops to give him, as without seeing him in person, I legally cannot diagnose or prescribe medication. He does need to see a vet for this problem, and he should see one today. Leaving this untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take him into a vet for treatment. Best of luck.

Because anytime the eye is involved I'm very cautious I'd recommend seeing veterinarian especially if the issue does not resolve by tomorrow. A veterinarian can examine the eye to ensure there is no infection or signs of an upper respiratory infection starting. They can also check to make sure no corneal scratches are present as these can be painful and require antibiotic ointment to treat. Anytime the eye is having an issue it's always best to err on the side of caution and have it checked out. If it's just the one eye there may be something going on on the corneal surface that you can't see with the naked eye. A vet would need to stain the eye to see a scratch. If you are seeing green eye discharge in Chacha's eyes, this could indicate there is a problem such as dry eye, which should be diagnosed / treated by a veterinarian. There is specific treatment for dry eye that you will not find over the counter (Optimmune ointment or Tacrolimus ointment) which helps stimulate tear production. The over the counter products simply lubricate the eyes and do not last long enough. You can try an over the counter dry eye medication for dogs such as OPTIXCARE, which you can find online. The sooner you have this looked at the better as dry eye can lead to eye trauma from the lack of lubrication from the tears.

My dog has sudden green eye discharge. Should I see a vet now?

The eye lids appear very red and with the history of the runny eye discharge with a sudden onset, there could be a scratch on the cornea or a foreign object trapped under the eye lid. An allergic reaction is also possible. Corneal scratches and foreign objects in the eye are uncomfortable and can get worse quickly. Chester needs to wear an elizabethan collar at all times and he should be examined today by the veterinarian for correct diagnosis and treatment. I hope this helps.
