My dog took too much Galliprant. Should I go to the emergency vet?

The first thing I would do is ask myself if the Galliprant has helped at all with the pain and lameness associated with the leg. The next thing I would ask myself if whether or not any of these other problems existed prior to your original vet visit, or if they occurred immediately after the Galliprant was administered. In general, Galliprant is an extremely safe medication that has almost no known side effects, EXCEPT for vomiting. Panting and trembling could be caused by the general discomfort from the vomiting episodes, or it can be a result of the pain she's experiencing. Ultimately, if the Galliprant is the cause of the vomiting, obviously discontinuing this medication may be in her best interest even if it is helping with the pain. Other medicatiosn are available to addres pain and inflammation that may result in few side effects. You will need to speak with your primary vet about these findings and possibly schedule another visit if need be. Hope this helps.

Hello. There have been no known unsuspected problems with Galliprant. It is safer to use in pets that may have some problems with their livers, but all non-steroidal drugs have side effects. With routine monitoring, most potentially harmful side effects can be mitigated quickly. Just follow your veterinarians recommendations. Hi, Gabapentin overdose can cause sedation and drowsiness and its effect should gradually disappear over the next 12 hours. If Bunty is excessively sedated I would ring your closer vets to have her checked over. Hopefully she has not eaten it !

I can understand your concern. It is unlikely that she will have a serious complication from getting this dosage early due to her weight of 17lbs. I would recommend monitoring her for vomiting, bloody stool or refusal to eat for more 12 hrs. I assume you gave her the Rimadyl with a full meal as instructed. If you didn’t and she won’t take a meal now, then that is cause for concern and she should see an ER vet right away. But if she ate a full meal and is just sleepy it’s ok to wait it out. I would also give her a half of slice of bread, if she’ll take it and if anything else changes over the next 12-24 hrs Paige should be seen by a vet to make sure she is ok. Giving back to back NSAIDS do have the tendency to cause an upset stomach and in severe cases they can cause stomach ulcers, but typically this happens after long term usage of the drug or any drug interactions. They can be given together but I generally recommend giving the tramadol at night, if only given once a day. It is for pain only and can cause drowsiness. That way she will sleep better and be less painful in the morning. If needed tramadol can be given up to four times daily. Check the dose and frequency with your veterinarian to see what they recommend. The Galliprant is an anti inflammatory medication which reduces joint inflammation thereby reducing discomfort. I recommend giving this with a full meal in the morning so she can be active without discomfort during the day. Please make sure she doesn’t gain weight since that can also increase arthritis pain. A one time early dose is unlikely to be problematic, but I would recommend that you don’t redose for at least another 24 hours. If she seems comfortable than you can wait for 36 hours and use the gabapentin. Monitor for any signs of nausea, vomiting, or dark tarry stools.
