My dog's front legs are turning out. Should I be worried and what to do?

This sounds like a growth deformity, xrays would help to define exactly what is going on. Mineral, especially calcium and phosphorus imbalances can have a major influence at this age - converting his diet completely to a large breed puppy food may help to encourage optimal bone formation

Congrats on the adoption! The leg positioning is sometimes called "Queen Anne" legs, or leg splay, and is very common in short-legged long-bodied dogs such as Dachshunds or Basset Hounds. While it doesn't usually cause any harm and isn't dangerous in minor cases, it can sometimes cause additional arthritis or joint issues down the line and sometimes requires surgical repair in severe cases, so preparing for proactive care such as a joint supplement and regular check-ups of the legs is a good idea. Since Sport's legs do look very splayed, a vet check up after adoption to make sure there isn't any arthritis present (and it isn't affecting any of the other tissues in the legs) is also smart.

From the pictures, it looks like Bruno is suffering from valgus deformity of his front legs. This is when there is a lateral (outward) turn of the feet. It occurs when the ulna stops growing while the radius continues to grow, causing the radius to begin bowing at the top and rotating outward. This is can cause discomfort to Bruno and it is something that can be fixed surgically. You can speak to your vet about surgical treatment of this deformity.

Congratulations on your new puppies. As you were describing how one of them was walking, I began to think that either there has been trauma to that specific leg either buy mom accidentally rolling over on the puppy, etc. or there may even be a genetic growth disorder that is affecting the specific puppy. Actally there is still that a lot that can be done for pets this young in terms of veterinary care. Perhaps a small splint can be applied or maybe there is a nutritional deficiency that is causing this leg abnormality that can be corrected by proper supplementation. Nevertheless, I urge you to take the affected puppy to the veterinarian as soon as possible to have a complete orthopedic examination performed. I would also take another one of the puppies as well as the mother just in case they need to do some testing on them also to see if there are any linking causes. Good luck. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The best thing to do is to have an X-ray of the legs done at your Vet. I would highly recommend a boarded orthopedic surgeon. The cause can be from a nutritional deficiency, genetic malformation or premature closure of the growth plates. There could be options of a brace or surgery to correct the leg. I do not recommend doing anything at home with out the supervision of a Veterinarian as things could worsen. Be sure that Trigger is on a commercial puppy food for large breed dogs. Hello, Based on your description, Loki may have what we refer to as a valgus deformity or angular limb deformity. It is a bone malformation some pets are born with, and it can be corrected with surgery. Follow up with your veterinarian to discuss options

She is so cute! This is likely just a normal malformation. I would make sure she is getting good nutrition and this make correct itself. If it doesn't, she will likely have a normal life and not have issues with this. If she is having trouble walking, I would have your vet take a look at her to see what options there are for correcting this. I hope this helps !
