Is my dog's frequent urination after drinking water a concern?

I would not get too worried over two episodes. I recommend watching his water intake and urination over the next week or so. If you notice that both remain elevated he should get checked out by a veterinarian as it could be signs of early diseases like kidney issues and Cushing's disease. Also monitor him for any blood in his urine, dribbling, or straining to urinate as it could indicate an infection or even stones.

That is not a common side effect of the medication. I do recommend a veterinary exam and lab tests to determine if she has a urinary infection, kidney problem or even diabetes or other metabolic problem that can change the amount of drinking and urination. Once they get a reason then they can start treatment that could consist of a diet change and/or other medications. Hi there! It sounds like little Woody needs to visit the vet. Frequent urination can indicate a urinary tract infection (UTI). When bacteria develop in the bladder, it inflames the urethra (the tube out which a male dog urinates), and causes a dog to feel like he has to pee all the time. I would be even more suspicious of this if he has little urine coming out when he's trying to urinate. A UTI is probably not an emergency at this point, but it is likely to be very uncomfortable if this is the case. While very unlikely at this age, it is possible for the urethra to swell so much that it blocks the passage of urine, which quickly becomes a life-threatening situation. I strongly suggest bringing Woody to the vet ASAP if the frequent urination continues. In the meantime, make sure he has access to plenty of water to keep the bladder and kidneys flushed out. There isn't much that you can do for him at home safely aside from this. Do be on the lookout for blood in the urine, as this is another indicator of a UTI. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Roxy. It is always difficult to tell if puppies are having true urinary issues verses potty training problems. If she continues this behavior, she will need to see a veterinarian to see if she has a urinary tract infection. It is a more likely condition in a female pup given their anatomy. This could be a sign of cystitis, an inflammation/infection of the urinary bladder. A check up and appropriate investigations and treatment are necessary and would include urine analysis and radiographs. Differentials could be inflammation (idiopathic, urinary stones, infection). Antibiotics may be necessary.

Ted is adorable! Thank you for posting a picture. Giving an excessive number of treats can certainly cause an upset stomach, but shouldn't cause an increase in water intake (unless it was salty human food), so the cause of Ted's increase in water intake might be unrelated to the treats. A urinary tract infection is only one of a large number of possible reasons that a dog will drink more water than normal. But the first step in evaluating an increase in water intake is to check a urine sample. That will check for a number of things including a urinary tract infection. Depending on those results, your veterinarian may recommend additional testing or may be able to make a diagnosis. So, I would recommend having Ted evaluated by your veterinarian. They will need to evaluate a urine sample, so they may recommend having you collect one at home or may recommend that he not urinate for a few hours before coming in for his appointment so they can collect a urine sample there. In the meantime, I would recommend measuring Ted's water intake since that will give them additional information about how much water he is drinking. Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
