Dog has foreign object, bloody diarrhea. Should I wait to remove?

It looks very similar to pieces of a ball with the rounded edges. This does not appear to be ingested food based on the appearance and shape period while not serious at the moment, one of these could pass from the stomach into the intestines and cause serious problems. I would consider rechecking the X-ray a few hours after the previous x-rays have been taken to see if there has been any change in the pattern. If there is no change in the pattern, I would suggest taking pixie in for surgery to have the abdomen explored. Prior to the surgery, you can also have an abdominal ultrasound performed to help confirm foreign material in the stomach. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. It's difficult to know for sure without knowing the size or type of object ingested, but it's definitely a concern for causing an obstruction in the stomach or intestines. If she ate it within the last three hours, then it's possible that it can be retrieved from the stomach if you take her to the vet. This may require anesthesia and special instrumentation though, so it would be expected to be somewhat costly - especially at an emergency clinic. This is the best option though. The other option is waiting to see if it passes OK. Normal GI transit time is 3-5 days. During this time you would just be waiting to see if she has any signs of an obstruction. Signs of an obstructions are vomiting, not defecating, acting very painful/depressed and a decrease in appetite. If you notice these signs, then Olive would need to go to the vet immediately for emergency surgery. I hope that helps and all is well with Olive.

Hello, thank you for the question. Based on the symptoms that you have described as well as the passage of foreign material in his stool I would recommend having your dog seen by a veterinarian. It is possible that there is more foreign material in his GI tract or he may have residual inflammation from passing something abnormal. It sounds like he seems stable overall, so I think it would be ok to wait to see your regular veterinarian tomorrow. Hi. I'm sorry Cooper is having stomach issues. If you vet has taken an X-ray and they think he is blocked from eating cloth, it sounds like they have a diagnosis and that he may need surgery. I would do whatever your vet is recommending, when dogs are blocked it can be painful and the blockage needs to be removed to help him feel better.

One of the sharp bone ends may have caused irritation or internal injury. Bright, red blood may indicate injury in the colon or lower intestine while dark, tarry stool may indicate bleeding in the stomach or upper intestine. If she is not passing the bones she needs to be seen right away. Can you take Brody into another vet for a second opinion? Unfortunately I cannot give a definitive one since I can't see him in person. You may feel better speaking to another vet. Given that he's otherwise acting normal, I would agree with your vet you may be able to wait, but if he starts vomiting, has diarrhea, becomes anorexic, and/or very lethargic, then it cannot wait.
