Is changing my dog's food right for grass eating & red eyes? Brands?

Most pets do not have grain allergies. More commonly it's the protein source that causes allergies. For most dogs, grain free is not recommended. For general food, I recommend the brand Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible and this results in great stool quality, minimal quantity and low odor. I also like Nutro and Purina Pro Plan. If you want to rule out a food allergy, the fastest way is a proper food trial using a hydrolyzed protein diet. I hope this helps.

I'm personally not a fan of Blue Buffalo. Their quality control is very poor because they don't own their own factories to make their food. They give the recipe to the factory who makes it for them. That means they aren't there to be sure the recipe is followed exactly. I would try Orijen or Acana. They own their own factories, so the quality control is very good.

I'm sorry Hulk has been having problems with soft stool! It could be that his diet was causing the diarrhea, but it could also be that he had a GI illness or ate something rotten. It's good that the bland diet has helped clear it up, and I would find another food to feed him besides Blue Buffalo. I am not a fan at all of it, there are many cases of dogs having GI issues on it. It also have very poor quality control over how it is made, and they have had a number of recalls. Brands of food I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. You can get his used to one of these new brands by slowly adding it to the bland diet, and over time, increasing the amount of the new food and decreasing the bland diet until he is eating the bland diet only. Neither. I do not recommend grain free dog foods because of the recent increase in dogs developing dilated cardiomyopathy who are on grain free diets. The FDA is currently investigating that link. I would also never recommend Blue Buffalo, it's a terrible food. I recommend feeding Linda Royal Canin, Hill's Science Diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. I hope this helps.

I personally do not like Blue Buffalo at all. They have had serious quality control problems which they have admitted due to the fact that they don't own their own factories. They therefore give the recipe to someone to make, and have no control over whether or not the recipe is followed exactly. Plus many colleagues have reported an increase in gas with this food. I would not recommend Blue Buffalo for Fiffy. As for the other two foods, between the two of them I would recommend the Nutro Max. It's a better quality food in my opinion. Just so you are aware, grains are beneficial to dogs and I do not recommend feeding a dog a grain free food unless they have a proven grain allergy, which isn't very common at all in dogs. Food allergies are the least common type of allergies in dogs, and when they do have a food allergy, it is most commonly related to protein not grain. There are very few dogs who have true grain allergies. It is beneficial for Fiffy's health to feed her grains, and brands that I would recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. I hope this all helps!

I will be completely honest with you, I do not like Blue Buffalo (BB) at all, and that's a feeling held by many of my colleagues. They don't own their own factories to make the food, so they give the recipe to a factory to make it. This means they have no quality control over their food, and have admitted that publicly. In addition, it causes horrible gas. I personally never recommend feeding a grain free food to dogs unless they have allergies. Grains are beneficial to dogs, and I recommend owners feed a high quality food such as Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, or Iams. If you really want to feed Luka a grain free food, I recommend Acana or Orijen. Those are very high quality foods as well.

I have had a lot of problems with my patients eating blue buffalo. I would off Howie plain boneless skin chicken breast white and rice for about 3 days then slow transition him from the chicken and rice to a new diet. I would look into natural balance, science diet, royal canin or iams. These are all great foods that are less likely to upset him stomach. If they have a sensitive stomach formula, try that. I would also keep him on his probiotic non-stop. Finally, before finished the giardia meds, I would have your vet recheck his poop sample to ensure it is completely gone. If he continues to vomit or if he starts having diarrhea again, I would have your vet take another look him. I hope this helps!
