What temporary low-fat dog food is like Hill's i/d for pancreatitis?

Continue this diet until your one pet is over their pancreatitis episode. Then you can slowly transition them back to a senior diet which is typically lower in calories and higher in protein and carbs. My top brands are Royal Canin, Hill’s Science Diet, Evo or Eukanuba. I'm sorry to hear that Fiona is dealing with pancreatitis. As Dr. Elizabeth mentioned, there are several low fat prescription diets on the market that can be helpful for longterm use. However, while you're dealing with this current vomiting issue, I agree that a homemade bland diet is perfectly reasonable. Since Fiona won't eat the rice, you can certainly try other starchy options. Plain potatoes or pasta are perfectly reasonable options, provided that you don't season them or use any butter or oil. Just be sure to mix them with a lean protein source, such as boiled chicken breast. The goal with any bland diet is to keep it as low in fat and simple as possible. If her vomiting continues, certainly have her rechecked by her veterinarian. I hope that she feels better soon!

Honestly, with pancreatitis a dog needs a super low fat diet and the only ones that fulfill this are prescription diets. I would recommend canned and dry Hill's i/d low fat. If this was his first bout of pancreatitis he may only need to be on this for a short while. If he has had multiple bouts of pancreatitis then he needs the super low fat diet for life. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Cosita! There are several diets available that do not require a prescription. Most of these are labeled “light” or “lite”. I recommend Hill’s Science Diet I/D food. You can also consider giving dog-friendly probiotics. If Cosita does not eat, you can offer her some plain boiled chicken and white rice (no bones, skin, or spices) which should be gentle enough on her intestinal tract and low in fat. The current recall has been confined to a specific range of the hills canned/wet diets and if she has been doing well on the active longevity kibble with no flare ups of pancreatitis I would be very slow to consider changing as this may trigger relapses which may be more difficult to control as she is getting older. A very low fat and restricted diet is recommended in pancreatitis patients, this is difficult to prepare accurately at home over the long term to maintain a correctly balanced diet. My preferred choice in such patients is royal canin gastrointestinal low fat or calibra gastro-pancreas but many light and senior diets are also ok in stable cases

Hill's i/d is an intestinal diet that is easy for a dog to digest. There are other intestinal diets that might be less expensive, like Science Diet sensitive stomach. Ask your vet for his/her recommendation for a more affordable diet before deciding to change. Also, ask your vet if you could just add extra fiber to your dogs diet, like some canned pumpkin.

Pancreatitis is a very tricky disease and has two diatcint presentations. There is the acute form where they are incredibly sick, non stop vomiting or dirrhoea and require hospitalisation for intensive support. There is the second form which is chronic and requires home care and support. Potentially lifetime changes to food types which are bland and low in fat.
