How long does fluconazole stay in my dog's body and show side effects?

Assuming Bruno weighs more than 30lbs the dosage is actually borderline low, I personally do not like Fluconazole, I usually prefer to use Itraconazole which I find more effective and safer, but at this dosage you do not have to worry about any severe side effects.

Fluconazole has been found to be very safe in dogs and the most common side effects are loss of appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea. Seizures are not a common side effect of Fluconazole. If your dog is healthy and took the fluconazole with no problems than it is unlikely to cause seizures in the future.

I would say that this would be an uncommon side effect of Fluconazole but I cannot rule it out for sure. I would stop the Fluconazole and see if this helps resolve the problem. The heavy breathing could be due to Coke being in pain. This sounds more of a back problem and if his legs are not working well and he seems to be paralyzed or wobbly in the hind end, this could be due to a spinal issue if there is a prolapsed spinal disc. If the symptoms do not resolve after stopping fluconazole, I would recommend discussing a protruding intervertebral disc with the vet as a possible cause of the symptoms. This can be treated using steroids and pain medications. In some cases, surgical intervention is required to restore function back to the legs. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. If the vet has confirmed that your dog has systemic fungal infection, then itraconazole is the right medication to use. Usually, dogs needs from 4 to even 15-18 weeks of treatment with itraconazole to completely get rid of bad fungal infections.

Itraconazole has a broader spectrum of activity. This means it can treat a greater number of fungal infections. Both can cause varying degrees of GI upset or liver function issues. Itraconazole is also more expensive than fluconazole.

Hello and thank you for your post! I have used Fluconazole multiple times for yeast infections and 200mg twice daily is within the dosing range. I would discuss this with your prescribing veterinarian first before switching as different drugs are used in different circumstances. In my experience, Fluconazole has less side effects than Ketoconazole and I prefer Fluconazole. I do not know what concentration your amoxicillin syrup is, but if it is just a yeast infection, an antibiotic like amoxicillin is not going to help. Levofenil is a human product and has not been tested for use in animals, so I would avoid using this solution for treating Milo. I would recommend bathing Milo twice weekly with Duoxo Chlorhexidine PS combination shampoo until resolved. This shampoo will treat bacterial and fungal skin infections and it does so quite well. I would not recommend starting it without diagnosis from a vet and confirmation of the correct dosage. Bacterial infections are more common in dogs, so it may not be yeast. If you're seeing vaginal discharge, that is definitely not a yeast infection and you need to see her vet right away.
