My dog has a flesh-colored growth near his nose. Do I need a vet?

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal infection). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking (if any). This could be a papilloma which is very similar to a wart, and if it is then Olivia may not require any specific treatment. It could be another type of growth or even a wound. If it seems to be getting larger or you do notice yellow discharge or bleeding I'd recommend having your vet take a look.

Steroids are a very important and useful class of medications but should be used with caution due to the risk of side effects. You should discuss your concerns with your vet, if the wound is healing you may just continue to monitor and reassess the condition if necessary. You could also consider seeking a second opinion from a different vet

I would not be concerned about this. It looks to be either a papilloma wart or a histiocytoma (benign tumor) both of which are common in young dogs. Usually these things will go away on their own within 4 to 8 weeks. If it gets larger in that a time frame or by 8 weeks it has not gone away then he should see your vet. Hope this helps. Skin growths can be due to a variety of reasons, including allergies, infection, allergies, warts, or true tumors. Since the growth is on the nose, it would be best to bring Quinn into your vet for care. Tumors, fungal infections, abrasions, burns, etc can all cause signs like you are seeing, and since some are more serious issues, should be seen and treated, especially if the area is growing rapidly in size. Your vet can take a scraping or biopsy from the area to check under a microscope and see what is going on.

I see what you mean about the growth on Guster's nose. This could simply be a benign growth, but it could be malignant. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed.
